Well Doofer you've caught me on hols in the Italian Dolomites with limited internet access

I'm still perfectly happy with them. They are Extra Load tyres with RIM protector.

No problems on twisty roads at speed with caravan attached. Once the caravan is detached they seem to behave well in both the dry and wet on the tight twisy moutain roads and steep off camber hairpins.

So yes I'm still very happy with them on the back. Yet to wear out the P7s on the front :)

Thanks for taking the time out of your hard life!

Aha - you've only got them on the back. My backs last for ever anyway, I have to swap them round to even the wear out. I guess a caravan makes things different though.

I know most online tyre reviews are fairly worthless, but I did do some more reading after I posted last, there does seem to be a consistent agreement that the N8000s are extremely good tyres but they don't last long. This may be complete rubbish though!

The thing is, I know that the Accelera Phi's are reasonably quiet (not silent, but no tyre is), perform very well and last well too. Plus I then saw 4 for a stunning £196.18 including VAT and delivery (ebay item 111360665359), so that made my mind up - I'll stick with what I know this time around!

I'd be very interested to hear how the N8000s last longer term, ready for next time - from the prices I've seen these are the only two contenders for 18" Croma tyres, unless you enjoy spending twice as much on something no better of course.

Enjoy your tough life - I got back from my Croma tour of Cornwall recently, and it performed wonderfully.

I got back from my Croma tour of Cornwall recently, and it performed wonderfully.

Well my dear "boy" Diego (aka Croma) has thrown two wobblies this trip to Italy.

Two occurances of no ASR/......... etc and one "fuel pressure issue".

All were not present when i got MultiECUScan connected. I've recorded the codes and will investigate further on returning home.

The fuel pressure issue was an interesting one. Had just done a brisk climb to 1800m above aea level and was gently descanding when we found a nice view, so stopped, reveresed and turned off.

5 minutes later went to start and nothing happend other than engine turnover. Retried and same again. Tried third time and engine started but was with EML and dreadded limp mode for a while then normality returned but the EML remained on. after that despite EML everything was normal.

Bloody weird. The better half said "computer glitch/issue as programmed by some newbie out of kindegarten!" :)

I kind of agree. Often I've started the Croma in the morning and been met with "Excessive Coolant Temperature". (Who's been driving my car while I've been asleep?) Retry is AOK.

Bloody computers........

When I get back to UK I thinking of starting a "Diesel Bog Down" thread....

Bog Down = high load at lower rpm & increased fueling which causes diesel flooding and unless you can get the RPM much higher then the whole system sinks in it own fuel.

It was probably air pressure or something silly.

Have you changed your fuel filter recently? Mine was almost due, but it just lost all its low-end grunt altogether. It got going at 2500rpm, below that was useless. I had all sorts of theories about the EGR valve, but I started simple and changed the fuel filter as it was almost due anyway... problem solved, it runs like new again.

Possibly … climbing to altitude > over rich fuel:air mix > over-heating > vapour lock(?)
Someone with aero-engine experience will explain it better.

I've had those warnings too...

Gave me very intermittent cut outs after a long-ish journey from Somerset to Leicestershire.

I've ignored them for quite a while, and haven't thought of that as a cause.

What's the easiest way of dealing with it do you think?

Well we are back in UK, near on 3K miles (2K+ with caravan in tow) and no further issues.

Getting back "on topic" re tyres am still very happy with the Nexen N8000s.

Had to traverse/negotiate some horrible torrential rain storms on the way home, down to 20 mph and still struggling to see, but no obviously apparent issues with the tyres.

Meanwhile some stupid German BMW drivers decided they could drive at 80+ mph in these weather conditions... plonkers .... as supported by the crashed cars and damaged Armco railings.

They probably read and believed the brand marketing info/data about our tyres allow you to drive at 500mph in 5 inches of water :)

If anyone around Hampshire or the south coast area is looking for 4x brand new 18" Accelera tyres in the next 3 or 4 months just PM me if you want a bargain.

I will put these up as a proper ad or ebay listing eventually, but I can't yet because there's a slim chance there might be needed. The Croma is due to be PXed in November-ish so the tyres I've already bought hopefully won't need to be fitted before it goes. They're sitting stacked up in the garage. But there is an MOT due soon, and the current ones are near the limit (so fingers crossed).

This means I'll hopefully have 4 brand new, unfitted tyres for 18" Croma wheels. So if you're happy to hang on a couple of months just let me know.

The listing I bought them from is somewhere up the page. They will be a bit less than that ultra-low price, and I'll happily deliver them if you're nearby or on the way to somewhere I'm going.

If anyone is looking for 18" tyres at the mo, the acceleras are available here http://www.tyretraders.com/tyreInformation%7CItemID%7CACC22545R1895YPHI.html for less than £43!

Mine were due for change, but have to admit I skipped them and went with Kumhos KU39s at £78 a corner (because they are excellent value for that price - and I've run the same model on our other cars and love 'em - they are defo better than and last longer than the Acceleras too), but for anyone on a budget the acceleras are a bargain that Id recommend.

If anyone's interested in the kumhos I got mine from Oponeo - ordered Friday morning, delivered free Monday morning (y)

Hi, if you running your car on standard 16" wheels then having 8v engine you can fit either 205/55 or 215/55 tyres (following owner's manual), you'll find 205's cheaper by up to £20 fitted per tyre. They will also be more fuel efficient compared to the same model but size 215,ofcourse difference will be barely noticeable. On the other hand, wider tyre will give more grip, which is important for your safety. Your call.
I always shop around when need to change tyres. I have used www.tyre-shopper.co.UK and www.event-tyres.co.UK
Both highly recommended.
