Having spent the last few weeks trying to get to the bottom of why my alarm keeps going off - roof cap missing, ill-fitting sunroof?, etc. I have resorted to locking each car door manually - so as not to activate the alarm as I don't think my neighbours appreciate the racket!

I realised this is fine for the 4 doors but I cannot lock to tailgate this way. It would have been a simle matter for fiat to have made the same provision for the tailgate but apparently no.

So, I have a choice - all doors locked and upset neighbours or tailgate open and no alarm.

Is there any way that I can fully secure the car without using the remote and setting the alarm.

In addition, has anyone any ideas as to why it keeps going off?

Missing roof cap has been sealed with ducktape

Sunroof appears to be closed fully but lifts slightly and then falls back when I slam the car door.

All windows are closed.

Can anyone make any other suggestions please?

You need to take this in stages.

On the overhead centre console where the cabin and reading lights are you will find two alarm overide switches. One switch will inhibit the internal movement sensors and the other will inhibit the anti-tilt/jacking sensor.

Have you tried each of these to see if the alarm trigger goes away?

Also check for small spiders/insects in and around the ultrasonic sender and receiver units which are also in the top centre light unit.

Also after the alarm has gove off are any of the 5 doors unlocked. A faulty central locking motor/connection could be causing a door to unlatch.

Famous boot light / other light problem coming on, causing a current surge and triggering the alarm. Park the car with the rear boot blind open and see if the boot or any other lamps are on when the alram has triggered.

Finally you could get someone to see if there are ny fault codes logged in the alarm/body computer ECU.

I can do this for you for free if you live near Southampton. (MultiECUScan wasFiatECUScan)

Finally, the alarm can be totally turned off with MultiECUScan BUT and here is the BIG BUT you will need to know your vehicles 5 digit security code before ANYBODY can do this change. Fiat dealers can get this code, with your signed authorisation and proof of identity & vehicle ownership but they may want to charge you to obtain the code.

Can you lift the sunroof by pushing it up from inside the car? If so then it's not fully closed.

There's a manual winder inside the rear interior light. The handle for it should be inside the light fitting itself, but may be in the glovebox. It's a bit like a long hex key.

re your sunroof problem, the same thing happened to mine, the roof was fully closed but when you shut a door it lifted slightly. On mine i noticed that the glass roof panel had become detatched from the metal bracket on the off side rear of the roof. If you sit inside your car and push gently upwards on one corner at a time, i think you will see what the problem is.

Looks like the sunroof!!

Guy coming to service - hopefully problems (including whistling sound when going over 65) should then be solved.

Will report back.

Many thanks to all who helped me out.

I have the same problem with alarm and Croma is without sunroof.
How did you solve your problem, Robert Driver?

Hi,

I have the same problem, and no sunroof. The switches on courtesy light unit make no difference. There are no creepy crawlies that I can see.

Would disconnecting the siren from inside the front wing work?

The computer might complain about the alarm being unavailable, but would it affect anything else? It would at least revent the audible alarm in the middle of the night.

As far as I can tell, it's just a 4pin connector, albeit in a pig of a place to get to.

Thanks

Ian

Hi yes I unpluged mine ages ago and you get a message saying alarm unavailable but everything else works fine. The siren is at the rear of the front wheel arch easy with the wheel off. Just one sugestoin though is the glove box light as i have caught mine on with it shut try taking the bulb out.

I removed the siren this evening. It was very easy. An irate neighbour expedited the issue somewhat. It had been going off almost all day.

I removed all the courtesy light bulbs, one by one, but it made no difference. The alarm would even continue as you drove away, and the indicators were not flashing. Very odd. I suspect maybe a duff body ecu.

Thanks

In my Croma there is a message on the dashboard "hatchback is open", so I guess my alarm we keep on going off until I actually sort out problem with this dashboard light.
I wander whether it is wiring or locked boot sensor which causes the light to stay constantly on even with boot being closed properly.

I removed the alarm. Was having the same problem with it going off even when driving away. I figured that the security system can go off as much as it liked if it was muted. No problems since.

Another option, which stops the "alarm unavailable" message is to take the alarm apart and disconnect the speaker inside. Easy to take apart, the are two clips, one each side where the bolts go in. Prise up the plastic here and it splits into two. Then just pull one of the connectors off the speaker in the front half. Wrap a bit of tape around to stop short circuits, re-assemble and re-fit. No noise and no warnings but it will still tell you if it has gone off.
