Well i finally bottled it and traded my Croma in for a 57 plate Vectra

There was nothing really wrong with the car except for going through two complete sets of tyres in two and a half years, the EGR failing on me and spurious warning lights but every time i came on here i read something else that filled me with terror.

I am staying off the Vectra forums to avoid the same symptoms ;)

I wasn't a massive poster on here but i was always lurking in the background and i would like to say thankyou to anyone who did give me advice and help

Anyway, if anybody is interested i have put my after-market stereo cage and fascia adapter up for sale on fleabay

Bye bye

Weakly review
You recently stated that the Vauxhall Zafira’s 1.9CDTi 120 engine can be a “disaster zone”. I assume this is the engine that powers many Vauxhall/Opels, Saabs and Fiats, the unit designed and developed by GM and Fiat. Were your comments directed only at the Zafira or is the problem more widespread? TW, via email

I have covered this both here and at honestjohn.co.uk. The 1.9 diesel autos are vulnerable to radiator heat exchanger failure, admitting coolant to the ATF and wrecking the transmission. On cars just out of warranty, GM/Saab usually contribute 40 per cent. Alternators of 1.9 diesels fail regularly. Saab dealers might quote £600 for a replacement, but this has sometimes been reduced to £300 when the customer complained. This engine can be delightful to drive, but can also be very problematic. Failures include inlet manifold swirl flaps, exhaust gas recirculation valves, diesel particulate filters, timing belts (often as a consequence of water pump seizure), oil pumps, dual mass flywheels and turbos. Those problems described can only refer to the 1910cc jtd fitted to vauxhalls.I ran a 1910cc jtd for many years(fiat stilo) and towed a caravan all over the UK and abroad and besides the one problem i caused by remapping never laid a spanner on it.The kind of usage i gave it,a normal non towing example would never get near the stress levels i put it under.I did however "over service it" and change timing belts and water pumps at
45k.But surely if the coolant level kept dropping you would investigate the problem instead of breaking the gearbox. In a word "Bombproof"

Trade in that unreliable Vectra and get something better. My suggestions would be a Saab 9-3 or an Opel Signum.

(sorry) :D
