P0238 - Turbo pressure fault

Hi, problem no 2! The other day while overtaking on a duel carriageway, the car 'hiccuped' and the check engine light came on. The car drove perfectly for the rest of the journey (approx 150 miles) and for the next few days until I had a chance to plug it into my laptop. The stored faults were egr - insufficient flow and a turbo pressure fault. As it was the first time I had checked the faults I cleared them to see which one would come back. I put a heavy duty cleaner in and checked the egr was functioning correctly, which it was. Last night, still with no new fault codes after approx 100 miles, I thought I would give it a blast to see what happened. The light came back on again, this time without any symptoms. When I plugged it in fault code P0238 - Turbo pressure came up. This covers such a wide range of faults from loose pipe to turbo on it's way out. Has anyone got any ideas of the best place to start? I had planned to clean the egr and fit a bullet plate (as recommended on the Alfa forum) but think my time could be better spent for now. I look forward to your comments.

Re: P0238 - Turbo pressure fault

Search Forum for overboost problems. Then check vacuum pipes to overboost valve (Causes overboosting of the turbo).

Regards

Two potentially useful threads:

and

Reckon it might be something similar.

Hope this helps.

Re: P0238 - Turbo pressure fault

Thanx for the quick replies guys. I will set about checking pipes and cleaning valves and sensors over the next week and keep you updated. Most of the posts on here have associated symptoms, or go into limp home mode, whereas fortunately I just have the warning light. I hope this means it's something simple.

Update: Map sensor cleaned (which was completely blocked), new egr valve and bullet plate fitted and finally boost vacuum hose repaired (thank you doIdontI). Result: A very quick Croma with no more error messages! Now I can set about sorting the 'gear selector body' fault. Never a dull moment with FIAT ownership
