Scuse me if this has been posted before but is there a guide on here on how to change the EGR valve?

I have read all about people cleaning their valves but am not confident to do this. I have decided i am going to sell the car so want to replace the EGR valve before i do so and i want to do this as soon as possible.

The AA came out after i lost power and blanked off my current valve which has made it drive great again, but this has resulted in my Engine warning light being on all the time.

Fiat have said they can get me a reconditioned valve for £110 + VAT but rather then pay somebody labour if it is an easy job then i would like to do it myself.

Assuming it is an easy job, will just changing the valve then make the warning light go out or will i have to have this reset?

In case it is important my car is the 1.9 diesel 8 valve on a 55 plate

Many thanks in advance for any help.

ABSSM, Below is my post from last year, I fitted my new EGR and it has been fine since, it's a quiite easy job to do if you have a good tool kit, they will want the serial number that is etched on the body of the old part
Eventually I got a brand new OE Pierburg part from Emissioncontrols.co.uk, they were most helpful and the part arrived next day by courier with 2 gaskets for £121.58, so all's well that ends well with lots of thanks to the forum members who helped me by responding to my post.

Many thanks. I ordered the reconditioned one from Fiat and with the gaskets and VAT it has cost me £137.00. Still undecided on whether to give this a go or bottle it and let my garage do it. I am assuming it would only be an hour or so labour?

Hi There,
I wouldn't worry too much about changing it over. I've got an 8v diesel and changed mine a while back. It's fairly easily accessible at the front and top of the engine and with a ratchet and torx heads you should be able to change them over in about half an hour or so.

Of course a decent mechanic should be able to do the same so I guess it's your decision whether you want to spend maybe £40 or so and saving yourself the trouble.

I can't remember whether the fault cleared itself or I had to plug the laptop in but if you use a garage make sure they've got the correct software to clear the fault, just in case.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I'd not bother with the recon from Fiat at that price. You can get one for c£90 new from Eurocarparts.I got a recon off ebay for £30.I didn't find it such an easy job to fit as some have suggested, but it is not that difficult.
I'd say where I went wrong was taking pipe from manifold off thinking it would be easier than undoing the 2 hex bolts underneath valve. However I could not get the clamp fitting back on with the little hex bolt - had to use a longer bolt and nut to get the clamp to close if you follow! The "check engine" icon should go after so many cycles, or you could download Fiat Ecuscan to clear fault code.

It is - the 8v & 16v are different units.
I think the 8v is a 55215032(?)
Seems awful price if a recon unit - plenty new available for <£100

Honestly its an easy job. About an hours work. Do yourself a favor and buy a Vauxhall part EGR, they are about £50 inc gaskets for an 8v 1.9 and approx £65 inc gaskets for the 16v 1.9. All parts are Vauxhall Vectra C from 2002.:)
