Hi there,

All of a sudden the rear reverse lights, the parking sensor and the back windscreen wiper are not working!

Would anybody have an idea of what's wrong please?

thanks!

Fernando

some basic info I did not include!
-1.9 16v 2005 model
-No warnings lights/messages shown
-Issue is intermitent (except wipers) but not working most of the times

thanks!

Hi

I have spent some time looking at the electrical diagrams and operational descriptions. Although all three are linked via the body computer under the dash there does not appear to be any other common link between these components. Despite the link via the body computer, a failure here shouldn't affect the independent working of the individual components.

They are all on different fuses and any failure of connectors common to these components would result in a whole host of other components failing too.

I think this is going to be a job for an auto electrician I'm afraid, unless you are a dab hand with a multimeter.

Thanks so much Radlet6 for your investigation and reply,

issue is so weird that maybe I should try a battery reset? I'll check the related fuses but being an intermittent problem it does not look that could be the cause...

cheers

Check your rear grounding points quite possibly some corrosion or rust is causing intermittent issues.

There are a couple of body earthing points behind the trim in the boot area. If you remove the LH boot trim the parking sensor module lives under there, but more importantly, there is a fuse and relay box behind there too. I have a feeling the problem may lie underneath the trim - that's where I would be looking if it was me.

Hope this helps.

Thing is a fault here should affect a lot more than the three items mentioned as they are all on different spurs.

Agreed, but you've got to start somewhere. Experience from my old Citroen XM says that it's most likely to be a plug connector problem or earthing issue. The systems may start on different spurs, but where do they end up? As they're all systems at the rear of the car, it would seem reasonable to start looking at the rear multiplugs and earth points...(thankfully) my experiences with Croma wiring at the rear have been limited to fitting my towbar so unfortunately I'm not completely familiar with where all the plug breaks are.

Of course, it could still be a fault with the main computer

But if it was me I'd have a good look behind the trim first in case a mouse or similar has got in and nibbled an earth cable :D

Hi
tried to remove trim al left side but looks more difficult that it appeared, but not sure where should I do it, is it at the boot side panel itself? Checked eper found this
naread.exe

but not very clear how to access it!

Thanks

Didn't say it was easy :)...remove the plastic trim making up the boot sill (i.e. the bit just inside the boot), then the boot divider mounting (if you've got a Prestigio), then fold the seat forward on that side to expose the screw covers holding the rear seat side cusion on.

Remove the cushion, the screws are hidden under plastic covers. Remove the boot floor then remove the plugs along the edge of the side trim by unscrewing them with a flat blade screwdriver. Remove the screws securing the dark plastic portion of the trim at the top, more of these are revealed when you remove the rear seat cushion.

The trim has a couple of plastic clips at the top as well, but by this stage you should be able to lift the trim slightly and pull out the bottom edge to give you access.

Sounds a lot but with practice, takes about ten minutes using the right tools.

If you're not that confident with automotive diy, leave it to someone who is or you might end up getting annoyed :D

yep sounds like that I'd loose a few hours of my time just to make things worse!
I'll check fuses + do battery reset and if issue persists I'll get it checked at a workshop

thanks

Don't know if you have sorted this problem yet. But it sounds like your revesing switch may be faulty

Sounds very logical. Does the rear wiper work when you switch it on using the switch on the stalk? If it only fails to work when the front wipers are on but you're in reverse (when it should come on automatically) then stores has probably just hit the nail on the head.

Hi
thanks for your replies, found out that it's actually two different isues!
Rear wiper share same fuse as the lighter, and that fuse was faulty, I remembered that ipod connector broke while it was in there :( ... so this one is sorted now!

Rear lights + parking sensors are possibly related to the reversing switch as Store suggests, I just found out that, for any reason, if I get the reverse gear engaged very slowly they work most of the times!

cheers
