Hi all. Had to change the battery on the Croma. It failed a couple of weeks ago but today the first chance I've had as it is now clear of 4 ft of snow.

Anyway, new one in and it starts fine but now have the horrible dash warning triangle light and the function screen scrolling through each window saying the security windows lifts now not functioning. The windows all work, but presumably it means the lock out isn't working.

Can this be reset, or have it blown up something!
thanks

open then shut each window holding shut for 3-4 seconds, this will clear warnings. The car has to relearn perameters for the safety close function(not trapping fingers etc. in window).

Brilliant! Many thanks. Will give it a go - was just about to post again it is indeed the safety "mechanism" to stop trapped fingers, heads, anything else.

thanks again

Can you advise if this worked for you and if the dash warning light has subsequently gone out? of it it will need re setting. same issue over here, but not with car at the moment to try, cheers.

Hi, yes, did it today and it worked. Each window individually. Fully down, then back up and hold for 3 or so seconds. Windows reset and warning trangle nice and absent!

Top banana! Just tried this and it has worked yay!! After months of putting up with a most annoying light it has now dissappeared.

Many thanks guys!!

Nothing that a forum search for "battery windows" couldn't have fixed...

(moan over)

It is a very unexpected quirk. I think it needs to know where the bottom and top are, so that it knows whether to stop or back off. If it reaches the top then stop. If it's an unexpected finger then go back down.

This led me to wonder why this data isn't in non-volatile memory. Perhaps the theory is that you could have replaced or adjusted the window mechanism while the battery was disconnected, so it needs to re-learn to be on the safe side. There again, you could mess with the windows without disconnecting the battery.

Either that or non-volatile memory was expensive in 2005. Do other cars do this? It's not something I've come across with previous cars.

Not wanting to be cruel but this is documented in the owner's manual.

Having said this the fact that the dash display can say "bonnet open", "boot open" and a miriad of other messages, you would think that it could also say "open/close all windows"

If all else fails, read the instuctions......

Would have tried the owners manual as a last resort!

My 1993 Merc SL has a similar thing with the roof opening/closing. The battery died on it and the roof lost it's settings - down to not "knowing" where it was in relation to the windows, so a similar reset with the windows and roll over bar for that. I didn't make the connection so thanks for the tip.

Hi,

I've got panorama roof on my Croma, changed battery, and did the window reset procedure. Although manual said I should do the reset for the roof too, I didn't and did not get any more warnings on the dash.
