AA said almost certain its the slave cylinder gone, two questions:-

1 What sort of price should i be looking to pay for repair

2 Any garages near Wigan / St Helens that can be recommended.

... almost certain its the slave cylinder gone ...

I’ve not experienced any clutch problems as yet – but spent some little time looking at forseeable problems. I think the slave cyl. is FIAT (& Opel) 55558917(?) & common with the GP 1.9 & usual GM derivatives. Take a look in the Croma section – as clutch problems (& I think the domino effect) have been commented on.

For reference I used the LuK online catalog.

Well had to bite the bullet and get it sorted, got it recovered to a local garage today. Will post the charges when its done:mad:

getting worse, eventually got the right cylinder from Fiat, sent master cylinder "sorry my mistake" they said.
Garage stripped down ready for refit, new clutch advised whilst it is stripped down. Now get a call to say that the Dualmass cylinder is moving about like a epileptic on crack.
Another £3-400 in parts IF we can get one. Really struggling to find someone with item in stock.

FU***NG Fiats:bang:

My sympathy. I gather it is quite normal and recommended when replacing a clutch on a modern diesel engine to replace clutch, dualmass flywheel and slave cylinder at the same time. As for F*****G Fiats.......blame GM. Just about all the problems people have been having (excluding EGR) are all GM designed / sourced.

I gather some people have replaced the dualmass fly wheel with traditional ones due to premature failures with some makes of dualmass ones.

Would be inderesting to compare two Cromas/Vetras etc. with this type of conversion to see how different they are in engine noise and smoothness etc.

Sometimes all this modern tech stuff is just way OTT. Dualmass flywheels, HID lights, diesel EGR circuits, DPF etc.

If diesel fuel cost the true price for what it is, a low refined almost crude oil fuel compared to a highly refined petrol fuel, then I guess I would not be so upset at paying for dualmass, DPF etc.

Now I'm confused - I was under the impression that the 1.9JTD and its associated gearbox were both Fiat units?

PS DMF failure is also endemic in VW/Audi, Peugeot/Citroen and Toyota diesel powerplants. It's a nice idea in theory...

My 2005 ePer gives the number as 55192449, fits both 1.9D, and the Alfa 159 1.9D only.
About £400 - £500.
I believe Ford diesels have them also. It's supposed to make the Diesels feel more like a petrol engine, sort of shock absorber.

Was informed by a mate that runs a fleet of transits that there is a kit to change this but not one for the Croma

Diesels in Fiat Croma, Saab 9-3, Vauxhall Vectra C, Vauxhall Signum are all Fiat's, gearbox - all GM.
