General 18" wheels for Croma

Hi, DoIDon'tI, My wheels have Bridgestone Potenzas, 1 barely used, 3 about 5mm, which must be about half worn. I think I offered the set at £180 including centre badges, (they don't fit my 159 wheels). Perhaps I should advertise them as Vauxhall wheels?
Some very minor scratches, unlike the present wheels, I touched a high kerb a few days ago.
18's definitely more positive, but with softer Michelins perhaps a reason for some of the difference. After the GT I still drive round small imperfections on the road surface.
My tracking appears to be good, tyres wear evenly, but I only do about 5000 miles a year now, and mostly 40 - 60 mph local A roads. Walked to Tesco today, as usual, in 5 minutes, so no real need for a car.
The work I do is mainly from home and very occasional.

Hello again Keith,

the price sounds fine to me, if you're happy to wait until one of us has an acquaintance in the other's neighbourhood then the deal is done. I'm hoping my father-in-law will be over your way sooner rather than later, my sister-in-law and her fiance will be buying a house soon so my f-i-l will be going across for support and advice. He's said he's happy to pick the wheels up and has a Grand Scenic so they'll fit in without a problem.

I agree with your point about the Michelin tyres, that's what came with my Brera wheels. Given the mileage I do at the moment (22,000-ish a year) then I should have a few opportunities to try different makes and see which I prefer.

Anyway, please let me know if you're happy to wait - thanks.

What model Croma do you have? I tried 16" wheels on mine but the 2.4 front discs etc left no clearance for balance weights on the inside of the rims, so I changed back to 17" ones.

I'm thinking of using 18" wheels in the summer and 17" in the winter - still depends on whether the ride is acceptable on the 18" wheels though. I'm still not certain it's the best way forward (getting 18" wheels) but was hoping Keith might prove flexible on price :D:D:D

mine is 1.9 150, but it uses the same brake components as 2.4, 305mm discs, maybe those rims you've tried were not ET 41
just check your spare wheel, i bet you it's 16", they wouldn't put it in if it didn't fit...
i must admit that there is not much clearance between the caliper and the rim, but i've done 3000 miles with no problem

The offset wasn't a problem, it was the internal diameter of the rim. I would suspect that steel wheels are more likely to fit due to the reduced material thickness - alloy wheels are necessarily thicker as the material is not as strong as steel.

I may yet give the steel wheel option a go - all options are open at this point, I'm still getting the wheels from Keith but after that I will make my choice for next winter depending on whether the ride & handling are to my taste. Thanks for your help.

I'd have to get some suitably tasteless hubcaps from Halfords though :D
