I have been getting a judder under braking, very badly at high speed. Is it possibly warped brake discs or is it the suspension. I had a mechanic look at it a couple of days ago and he said the suspension was fine, spent an hour and a half looking at it. It has been making a knocking noise over bumps which is why i had it in the garage. Couldn't find the cause of that either. Could that be down to warped discs aswell. Any help will be greatly appreciated. It's a 20v turbo by the way.

Knoking over bumps can meen that the wishbones rubbers are gone or that the bolts have slackened. I would eather chack this yourself or take it to a good garage and ask them if they could look at the folowing rubber bushes.

Wish Bone mounts.
Track rod ends.
Anti rollbar links,
suspension top mounts.

these are the noprmal culprates of wobbling vibration and knocking.

I had the car in the garage twice and both times they said the suspension was fine. It was a senior mechanic and main m.o.t tester that looked at it last, surely he would have spotted a suspension problem?

i would of said the track rod end. if it was a wishbone mount/ rubber it would wobble almost all the time as with the anti roll bars

only cost me £10 each for the track rod ends. carnt remember the site tho:(

Sometimes the garage will test it by pulling and shoving. well you try pulling and shoving with the same force your car does when you hit a bump. including the force of the cars weight and the force of G etc your talking in the regon of a 1 ton bloke running at the cars wheel at about 25 MPH and not stopping till he hit the car. so Its more then likly that a crow bar in the joints and a strong man jerking each joint will make it apear.

If a bolt has come loose by about 0.3mm or a quater turn and you cant see a gap a ton of car pulling round a corner will move the mount.

I'd wager you have warped discs, it's a VERY common problem with the coupe. Mine are the same. The cooling of the discs is poor and also the brake pads sometimes don't fully release meaning the disc gets superhot. There is a technique to de-warp then, involving stopping from high speed a number of times. I'll see if I can dig it out from FCCUK. One of Nigel's posts IIRC.

I am sure that if you put carbon disk brakes in the car would not have the problem with over heating brakes. sorry Handling would not be better but the stopping from 120MPH would proberbly not melt the brakes quite as fast.:bang:

I did say AND Make the over all handling of the car much better. By Uprating the suspension and putting uprated tyres and everything on there.

Carbon disks might ruin your bank balance though...
Decent disks and pads are a worthwhile investment. I had 3G disks and Pagid blue pads on the front of my Coupe. They weren't cheap, but I never had any problems with them.

if the disc is warped the surly you will hear it rubbing on the pads

maybe a slow returning piston. i had the same problem this week and it was due to this and is very common on any car

have you had any luck(y)

What? have you ever had warped discs? rubbing on the pads :p

shuddering when braking can be due to play in the track rod ends. i've destroyed everything with a rubber bush many times and replacing the track rod ends has sorted out wobbly braking more than once. plus the steering feels so much more tight and accurate with new ends on.

sure have makes alot of noise and juddering....

well i greased up all the caliper/ pistons and still getting mad wheel wobble..
will have to be careful other wise i will have a warped disc it get so bloody hot:mad:

Cheers guys. I have taken it back to the garage and sure enough it's the track rod end. getting it fixed on tuesday.

I wonder if some one could help me diagnose a problem. When I break from high speed 70+MPH I get a lot of judder through the brake peddle and the steering wheel. At low speeds there is a slight crunching feeling when I brake and the car generally pulls a little to left. I thought it was the brakes even though I have had the disks and pads replaced in the last two years but I had them checked and they are fine. Do you think it could be suspension - if so how much is it likely to cost to fix?
