hi im hopeing someone can help,
i have a fiat coupe turbo 16v on a N reg

i have had a complete engine replacement so got a new head with new valves etc, i also had to replace the bottom end, when i had the car back it was working fine for a few months but for the last few weeks when i start it in the morning it will start 1st time but if i try to pull off it stalls it will restart but then i have to wait for 5 mins then i can pull off but if i try to give it power it sounds like it going to cut out but after 10 mins it runs fine with no problems

does anyone know what is going on with it???

Thanks in advance.

Bernie

It sounds like it could be a coolant temp sensor, (CTS) when you start it from cold what revs is it doing?

the sensor tells the ecu the car is cold and the ecu tells the engine to inject more fuel for the 1st few mins. raising rpm to around 1000+ rpm then as engine warms it leans off and runs as normal, I suspect yours is faulty and not telling the ecu that the engine is cold. This will create the symptoms you describe, it will tick over until you load the engine or touch the acelerator.

hi thanks for helping out,
when i start it, it revs just over a 1000rpm if i accelerate at a stand still it will rev higher but if i go to pull off it cuts out i find that i have to boot it a bit to keep it running which is not going to be good for the turbo, i only have a short distance to work so it is then parked up all day when i leave it starts and runs fine it is only in the morning so it has got me puzzled.....

The next thing to look at is the map sensor, a split in the pipe or blockage will cause it to stall when cold,

map sensor is a little black box located on engine bay bulk head on drivers side

thanks

i will take a look at that,
would you also know much about increasing the boost?
could i adjust it or would i need to fit a boost controller?

cheers

As well as using the Fiat forum, it is a good idea to pop over to, and register yourself on,
www.fccuk.org/forum
The best method is to chip the car and have it rolling roaded.
More info will be available on fccuk (fiat coupe club uk) as there are people who specifically know about the 16v and 16vt.

hi

just thought i would let you know that i have replavced the CTS and it seems to be working fine now, thank you for your help.
