where abouts do you live? You need to get this to a garage asap. Usually if the aux belt goes it takes the cambelt with it.

I cant remember if it was the aux belt that snapped on my OHs 20vt. The belts do need changing often though on the 16v

Re: fiat coupe 2.0 16v auxcillery belt snapped

If it is your Aux belt that definately has gone, when the Aux went on 20vt we lost the power steering not everything. If you have nothing then there might be another problem too.

I would give motormech or powerfiat for advice. If possible i would get your car to either of those. They are both coupe specialist and wont rip you off. My OH coupe and my coupe always went to motormech, he is very good.

i wouold seriously take it in to a specialist to get it sorted. It makes me cringe when people try and sort these cars out for themselves and could potentially do it more damage

It makes me laugh when people say this. Why does a coupe engine with a busted head need a specialist?. A new head (breakers are good for these although hard to get hold off ), valves to replace the bent ones, Headgasket set and belt and tensioner kit will get the engine going again. This can be done by any amateur mechanic with a good tool set.

Re: fiat coupe 2.0 16v auxcillery belt snapped

There seems to be a few problems with it. Specialists are expensive. Personally i would take it to someone who knows what they are doing, if the cambelt needs changing, aux belts tensioners... bla bla bla. Or at the very least ring for advice.

Didn't you know? All coupe engines are made in the enchanted forrest with pixie dust

I find my coupe straight forward to work on. I dont see how any competant garage with a bit of research couldn't do any mechanical work on a Coupe.
If you dont know of a decent garage then yes a specialist is the way forward.

In fairness before I got my coupe the owner had serviced the car at specialists. however one job, new sump plug threaded nut to be put on the sump. Which was done at a back street garage proved too much. In removing/replacing the sump they forgot to properly retighten the dipstick holder, thus creating an oil leak. Plus forgot to top up the gear oil as a driveshaft was removed. Luckily I rectified both.

To conclude a coupe is relatively straightforward to work on but there are some poor mechanics out there.

Re: fiat coupe 2.0 16v auxcillery belt snapped

Most garages don't do any research though.

The 16v has twin counter roating balance shafts which need to be correctly aligned or they will cause more vibration. Many garages just throw a belt on thinking it will sort itself out.

Basically got the same problem as my Tipo. Worth giving it to a specialist so they have to deal with the manifold studs if they snap off!

Yeah BMW suck. Watched a BMW 3 Series 2.5 6pot get a headgasket change and needed new headbolts and holes tapped as the head warped that much it stripped the threads from the block!.
