Does the ABS cut in when braking ? Make sure its all clear behind you and jam the brakes on, if it works then probably a dash bulb.

didnt think ABS was part of the MOT

Edit: just looked it up it is part of the MOT if it is fitted

"regulations here are very clear. If there is a problem signalled by the ABS light, then that is an MOT failure. The Testing station would have no discretion at all.
The ABS system will have a special sequence of warning lights when the ignition is switched on to indicate that the system is functioning correctly. That is tested for the MOT. The ABS as such is not tested. So if, as a result of your ABS failure the warning lights show an incorrect indication, then that will result in an MOT failure. "

yeah it is definatly part of the mot, i cant really test the abs as ive left the car at the MOT place and just told em to do what ever checks they have to do, no point bring it home as i dont have the time to fiddle with it at the mo, just know a big bill is prob going to come my way!!! :(

well good news........was just a faulty intrument panel....so found one for £20 with the exact mileage on it (give or take 200 miles) and its all sorted now!! good news on a coupe, doesnt often happen!! haha!

I wasnt so lucky.

I noticed the rear wheels locking up yesterday when I braked hard in the rain. Checked the Startup sequence and no ABS or handbrake light (cant believe I hadnt noticed)

Took the Instrument panel out (Multipla)

AND FOUND SOME GIT HAD STUFFED INSULATING TAPE AROUND THE LEDs TO MASK THE FAULT...both handbrake and ABS lights are lit indicating EBD failure.

This car was sold to me with 12 months MOT a few months ago...

now to diagnose the fault.Crap

You need to get a computer on the ABS ECU which will tell which side has failed.
I had the same problem and used some software off Barnacle on the FCCUK site on my laptop.....you also need to buy some cheapo Chinese OBD/USB connectors. All the info is there though.
It is dead easy to find which side it is but it is pain taking all the rear seats and rear cards off.
Can be done though but not my favourite job.
