Re: FIAT 500x

I had a quick look around one in the Fiat dealership in Northampton this morning. It looks great, but it's not that spacious, especially with the driver's seat back. Some of the switchgear feels pretty cheap too. That wouldn't bother me if it was a cheap car, but you can get a reasonable Qashqai for what Fiat are asking.

Yes but then you'd own a qashqai....

Well that would keep the Mrs happy and would also mean not having to deal with the Fiat dealership network. Sounds alright to me.

Or you could have a low mileage Mazda CX-5. Much nicer.

Re: FIAT 500x

Is it cool? We-ell, er, no, I don't think it is. Is it a reasonable stab at the Crossover market? Yes, I think it is. In fact after seeing one in Mangoletsi when we went to pick up the Giulietta I'm giving it some (fairly) serious consideration as a replacement for the Panda.

At the other end of the scale is the Panda Twin Air in Lounge or Easy trim. Apart from the initial cost, the other factor is the fuel consumption. I spoke to a woman last week about her 500 TA and she said that she loved it, both the car and the engine, but when I asked her about the fuel consumption she replied: "About 39 to the gallon." That's pretty disappointing as the Giuli does about the same in general driving, and that's a 175 MA model.

But, I don't think there's a lot to be gained though, unless you really want a Crossover, in comparison with the Giulietta.

With regard to the switchgear issues someone mentioned above, many of the minor controls are lifted straight from the Alfa and I find them to be of reasonable, if not good quality.

I'm presuming the fact that in profile the 500X looks similar to the Audi Q3 is purely coincidental.

Cool? No, but pretty competent and quite good looking so it might be a case of wait about 5 years and buy a 2015 model. It'll be cheap by then and might even have the makings of a future classic.

Re: FIAT 500x

o be fair, most modern cars are arguably not bad - although clearly there are exceptions to that rule. The 500x to me fails because it has 500 in the name.. a 500 should be small and making a big one and putting 'x' in the name is just ridiculous and i dislike purely on that basis. They are trying to cash in on the success of the 500, its a new car they should have given it a new name or revived another older name that more matches what the car is.

Same issue I have with all the BMW Mini's - they are actually not bad cars but they are not Mini's or remotely small, even by modern standards they are not small and i just can't let that go.

Do I sound like an old record yet?? Yep, i have issues haha.

I Think it's pretty cool to be honest ... is it just me or are all cars starting to look the same ....lol

Fiat need to grow their balls back! Release the pre facelift Multipla with 4wd and i'll be happy!

I suppose it does have a familial look to the front end, perhaps a sort of Uncle 500, but you have to be careful with a name. I was listening on the "car set" at work the other night and a Traffic Unit had were doing PNC checks on a couple of cars. The first one was a Fiesta, so no problems there but then the voice came over the radio with the VRM number followed by:

"It's a FIAT Saydeechi, whatever one of those is."

The reply was:

"Yes, FIAT Saydeechi in gold.....never heard of it."

Yet that, to me at any rate, was one of the cleverest car names for years. 4X4=16. Sixteen in Italian is, as we all know, Seidici.

If they'd said a Suzuki SX4 I'm sure everyone would have known what it was. Having said that, several motoring magazines warned that if VW insisted on calling its MPV the Sharon no-one would buy it. The same with the Vauxhall Coarser. It might mean one thing in Spain, but it would obviously fail with a name like that.

Erm, right.

Re: FIAT 500x

yeah but most brands cars look the same at the front, all fords look the same - even the transit has the same front as a fiesta now.. doesn't mean it needs to share a name. Fiat are actually one of the few marques left that haven't made all the cars look the same for which i doft my hat to them, annoys me that all cars look the same.

Re: FIAT 500x

They're just about to land in Australia and it'll be interesting to see how they go. They're sold by the same dealer network that sells Jeep (yes, I know, same company group) so they'll be selling back to back with the Jeep. After Fiat made such a mess of the Panda (had to stop importing it because they couldn't sell them), I wonder if they'll be able to sell this thing.

And yeah, it's not a 500, even if it does prove to be a competent car.
