Re: Welcome to the Cool Wall: How to get cars added...

If the normal model mk1 Punto goes on the cool wall, the normal model mk2 and Grande Puntos should go on there too.

Coolness doesn't come from origin of components or reliability etc

It comes from how something "stands out", tries to be different, does something unique... or has a character.

The Croma as an example does an estate/mpv thing and whoever buys one has decided not to go for the "usual", which gives it a certain level of coolness IMO.

Re: Welcome to the Cool Wall: How to get cars added...

when the mk1 first came out it did all that, i had them rear lights in the c pillar too that many copied after

Wasn't the mk2 Renault 5 the first car to have the lights in the c-pillar though? The point I was making was that if the normal mk1 Punto should go on the cool wall, so should the normal mk2 Punto and Grande Punto. I could go further: the normal 2003-2010 Panda, the normal model Brava, the normal model Tipo, etc. IMO, the only thing that makes the boggo mk1 Punto different to the boggo versions of the mk2, Grande, and Evo is that it was the 1st car to bear the Punto nameplate.

Precisely. Pretty much all Fiats have a certain character that you can't quite put your finger on. You just sense that they were designed by people who love cars, rather than just see them as machines. The current Panda and 500 hatchback have a character which the vw up, Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto, Toyota aygo etc lack. The same goes for the Punto vs the ford fiesta, latest Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, VW Polo, Toyota Yaris, etc. Character is something that is very hard to define, yet very noticeable in its absence, if that makes sense?

Re: Welcome to the Cool Wall: How to get cars added...

The poor old Fiat 127 is always overlooked! Car of the Year winner, the first supermini, sold 4.5 million including Seat production, ford bought 9 when trying to work out how to create the mk1 Fiesta (look at the shape!), and out handles a Mini (as 3 journalists have told me)! What else, the 1050 will still be accelerating when the needle falls off the end of the clock (100mph), even with 5 up and a boot full of cricket kit. It still drives like a modern car, and a mk2 1050 doesn't feel anywhere near 40 years old - sounds great and will embarrass a lot of modern traffic.

This is not about rust, reliability or blindly buying a car so bodged together you sell for a £1,500 loss nine months later. The X1/9 was penned by Bertone in 1969 but was too cool for British Leyland. In Fiat hands and combined with the power plant from the legendary 128 the X1/9 soon became one of the best selling sports cars ever made and to this day one of the best handling cars money can buy.
Some of the cars Fiat made since have been cool but this is the yardstick.
