Basically as I see it, if your going to have an HTPC then get a full size case so basically it does entertainment and normal pc duties, mini Atx etc will do this but your limited to upgrades and sometimes hampered by expensive parts.

I think I should be happy with it, there's a huge number of people on AV forum and ebuyer who modify and improve it so am not worried about the future of it really :)

No firewire, but I have a USB 2 160 external HDD which will be used, plus it has 4 HDD connectors apparently, just no second mounting inside, so people just make a bracket themselves and sort it like that. Many people are upgrading it to core duo w/ new motherboard etc. so that's something i could look at one day.

True, for now I will be keeping it as is, it should arrive tomorrow so will know then. I just hope it is as described.

Well it arrived at lunchtime today! Got home and eagerly opened it, realised we had no spare keyboards in the house (and mine is waiting to be delivered) so went to my Dad's school to get one - first time i have seen it since its refurbishment, it's like Fort Knox, bloody brill! - Got one and sorted everything out.

FIrst impressions? Fantastic! THe thing weighs a tonne, it all lights up nice and blue and displays any word up to 7 characters that I want it to (currently ARTISAN). The volume knob on it is absolute crap, it's plastic and gets semi-jammed half way around.

Wireless working, DVD drive working, all slots work, it's currently into my TV using a DVI-VGA converter, awaiting a DVI lead.

Sound wise my dad things my CD player sounds better, which is annoying because I spent £100 on a DAC to make it sound better, humph!

Media Centre is excellent with the remote, it all just works, it has a built in IR receiver in the box plus two external ones if you so wish.

Erm, anything else to say? Not sure.

I knew you would say that. I don't think my desk will take the mass of a stacking stand LOL. I will have one ready for my new place. They are all designed for staking anyway, well, sort of ;)

It's actually The Transporter, though you've just made me want to watch

DIE HARD

My third day working on it then and finally it's pretty much how I want it to be! I really should have gone for a mac mini!

MCE doesn't have a DVD decoder, powerDVD one wouldn't work even though it should, got Nvidia trial for now.
Had to buy MCE tunes to let itunes files work within MCE, fine, but to do this I needed: .Net framework 1.1, 1.1 SP1, 2.0 and Rollup 2.
S-video now working properly with full ATi catalyst control panel installed, only 7.1, 7.2 gave an error.
Half my music copied over, no files yet, that will have to wait until I do a few tests to double check I won't lose any files since I did something wrong yesterday and nearly lost mp3s!
Erm, erm, oh, Web media installed so 5live is now part of MCE; amazing little applet.

Apart from all the effort, I think I am happy now, not sure, I guess loads of things will bug me. I like MCE but they haven't half made it difficult to make how you want.
