Hi all,

Just a quick question really.

The hard drive in my father PC is tiny, if i was to hook up a second HD, could i just copy everyting accross (including windows), then remove the first so the other would now become the C drive therefore boot up from that?

I short no - you need to make the hard drive bootable as well. If you just switched over, you would probably not have copied over the boot sector info, along with possibly hidden and system files. Also, you would need to make the partition active.

By far the quickest and easiest way of transferring it all over it to use Norton Ghost, but of course that requires having a copy of Ghost in the first place!

Other techniques are quite long winded, but it is possible.

personally i do a fresh install and drag over what i need from the old HD

Tried that but it wont work.

Its a really old pc, oe of the hard drives is a scuzzy so i cant seem to use it to boot up from (not sure why), because of this i cant do anything until i get hold of another HD. May look intoa full new PC as it seems to be having more and more faults, think its just coming to the end of its life really (think the mother board is about 9 years old).

9 years old with a SCSI disk? Sounds like an old server hardware to me.

Get a pic of the connector type and I'll see if I can get you a replacement.

Cheers, will do.

Just in case, where is the best place to get PC's from that will just be used for general stuff. Wont be used for gaming or anythiong that will take much power so would only need to be a low grade PC really. (mainly internet and word proccesor usage)?
