| AKA Mooman | Home Network Issue, Any Suggestions? OK I got me home network set up, have done for a long time but recently found out that the Master Machine (This one I'm on now) Does not allow any of the other 3 computers in the house to browse its files. From here I can look through any shared folder on any computer in the network. The other computers all have access to each other and can surf the net via the Master Machine but Cannot look at ANY of its shared folders. I've checked: That File and Printer Sharing is installed. That the Firewall is not preventing any authorised access. That the computers are in the same workgroup. I'm currently checking the enabled and disabled services. Does anyone know why else this would happen? It used to work and If I did disable something which affected it I don't know when as I was only made aware when my big bro requested s file from my machine

| AKA Mooman | Re: Home Network Issue, Any Suggestions? All Running Windows XP Pro SP2 'Machine 01' has access to the net, Other machines connect to the net via 'Machine 01' which transmits and recieves data via a Switching Hub. Machine-01 = Master Machine (Administrator Priviliges) Machine-02 = Tower - (Restricted Priviliges (User)) Machine-03 = Laptop - (Administrator Priviliges) Machine-04 = Laptop - (Administrator Priviliges) All machine IP Addresses are fixed apart from 'Machine-01' which has one fixed for the Internal Network and another assigned via ISP. EDIT: Remember, it used to work... it just stopped all of a sudden.

| Orka inte | Re: Home Network Issue, Any Suggestions? each computer needs to be on the same subnet and same sub ip range. iirc.. for windows. so, machine 1: 192.168.0.x and each subsequent pc should be on the same level if not using a gateway... 255.255.255.0 for the subnet on all machines..

When you try and manually type a network path to Machine-01 e.g \\Machine-01\Tunes Sometimes the error message: Widows cannot find \\Machine-01\Tunes Check the spelling then try again, or try searching for the item the start button and then clicking search. OR \\Machine-01 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the adminsitrator (Thats me ) of this server to find out if you have access permissions.Log on failure: the user has not been gruanted the request log-on type at this computer.
EDIT: When I view all workgroup computers they all display and from 'Machine-01' I can access all of them. Any of the others that try to access 'Machine-01' are denied.

| this is where i stand | Re: Home Network Issue, Any Suggestions? my computer > tools > folder options > view > [ ] Use Simple File Sharing If it were me, i'd have an account for each computer on each computer. Then you can correctly set permissions for each one via the managment console. Handle which folders to share from there as well, gives you more control over what it is doing (makes it more like win2k file sharing than win9x)
