Re: Bluddy Windows :(

So you not do yourself a system disk after the first failure?!!

May be worth repairing Windows XP - you got the CD to hand?

first off, remove any removable storage. So take out any floppy discs, cds and usb pen drives or memory cards

then try it

Might be a simple case of your Hard Drives immanant failure, specially if its one of them S.M.A.R.T drives, certain types of these always die randomly.

The wise thing to do would be to make sure all your data is backed up because next time it may not start.

Think you need to give it time to reconfigure itselfs or you would have to do it manually.

i think he means get into bios, change the necessary settings for booting the pc, it used to always have bot sequence starting with floppy, follwed by cd then hard drive.
make sure it starts with your HD, cos it could be one of the other bits that's broken, and they're cheaper.

other than that it means your windows partition is f00ked, and you may need to reinstall, or alternatively buy a new hd.

the bios still sees the hdd, even if i am getting the boot disc failure, dose this mean the hdd is fooked

Yeah what he said AND to set all IDE drives to "Auto Detect" if your Motherboard is not capable of Auto Detect then you should set the bits you removed to "None"

You're best course of action would be to run a Scandisk / Fix Disk and reinstall Windows, it might be a simple case of corrupt HDD sectors and/or a corrupt windows installation. If you continue to get the problem then you would need to back up all your HDD contents then Get some Software that Resets ALL your HDD sectors to ZERO then reinstall Windows and hope for the best, if it happens again then you can be sure that your HDD is on its way out.

If you ever get corrupt sectors at the beginning of your HDD then its usually all over.

Good Luck

Re: Bluddy Windows :(

On a similar topic, i got another one of those bloody windoze installs that corrupts the hard drive partition, and you can't delete the partition cos it's got a dodgy name.... sooo bloody annoying... the only way to correct it i know of is to whip the hard drive into another machine and do the necessary formatting.. but this is on a laptop... so not the easiest task in the world.

You need a Windows 98 Boot Disk and must do it from DOS, if thats what you have tried then download and install "Partition Magic" tis the dogs danglies as you can change the size of partitions and add them while Windows is running.
