sure basicly i get three sets of numbers from the lappy
one email address and make one phone call.

im not going to say exactly how because my inbox will most likely be showered with all sorts but its very simple plus dave gets his original coa key.

i'm stuffed then because the other sticker on the botton is also all rubbed away can't read the numbers off that either

i've not got a friend with a disc either only ones running windows 7 have work laptops an the it department just gives them the laptop and charger.

it is possible to download an iso and burn it using image burn just to get the laptop running right after that i can sort the key.

i'm downloading one from windows 7 forums, but i'm out in the sticks an its going to take 3 hours over telegraph poles

wow 3 hours takes me back to the days of zx81's and commodore 64's lol
anyway ok dave just let me know when its done and i will pm you for some information from the machine.

i left it downloading and went to ben, when i got up it had errored so i did it again, now i cant find my blanc dvd's

hope you find them after all this work your putting into it dave, any other laptops you might have that has issues at all?

yeah i cured the password problem, now its in a loop

ok few questions:
have you at anytime tried to update the bios?
have you ever tried to re install any windows software xp? vista? win98?
can you start it up and tap f8 to get into safe mode preferably with networking?

also what make and model no is it?

I'd approach it from a tangent: see if it boots from a live Linux CD (Knoppix is the obvious choice, but there are others). You'll then have a clearer idea of whether the issue is with Windows or with the bios/hardware, and a method of snagging anything useful from the HD (presuming it actually spins up).

It wouldn't install on the original hard drive

it nearly installed on 2nd hard drive,

i remembered i had another known good hard drive, Its installed fine on that :slayer:

just need a 7 home premium key now.

also i don't think its wi-fi works there is a button but nothing happens when i press it the little light on it dont even light up.
