No not Itunes and WMP etc. :p

Well the tax man is sending me a nice tasty cheque for just over £350 so I'm gonna splurge and treat myself to a media player for my bedroom. :D But, I know nothing about them really.

Soooooooo, here's the 411.

My plan is to convert all my DVD's and use this to play them. Therefore I can get the PS2 out of my bedroom. ;) I'll also use it to play my stuff I sort on the laptop, such as edited Corrie for the Sian/Sophie storyline. (It will be transferred to play this lot) Although, wifi streaming would be an advantage, as I could stream from my PC in the front room. :chin:

Most of my stuff is AVI format. (Await's Custard saying I'm 2000 and late ) ;) But would like a player that can handle basically any format you chuck at it.

If anyone could help me I would be grateful. :)

Price range - £0-100 :)

I was looking at the WD stuff... as it's in my price range. May dig around and see what reviews I can find. :chin:

Don't hate on me for AVI, it's not my fault my USB TV software thingy records in that format. :p

2nd hand 360 and PS3 media server?
£100 keeps you of the good stuff

.AVI snigger

though about buildinga media PC/monitor and removing the TV altogether?

I would do the 360 route, as I could just move my current Xbox upstairs but I don't keep my PC and Laptop always on. ;) and the 360 option is kinda noisy, well mine is.

Media PC is out of the question as my room also doubles as a panic room it's that small. Plus I don't want something noisy, don't want fans drowning out the screams. ;)

I'll give you that about the 360's noise levels
i use an older 360 upstairs and its a bit too noisy for comfortable media viewing
2nd hand PS3 would cost over £100 but would give you bluray
media PC's can be near silent with passive heatsinks
hell my PC downstairs is in an Antec 900 case and isnt too bad
