My internet has been OK since I changed to BT from Virgin in November. It's fiber optic to the box and the box is only 100 yards away.

With Virgin I was only getting 1MB max and was often losing the connection.

Hi,

Iam with BT Broadband unlimited,

Ive now been with them for 6 years and had nothing but a good connection speed and service hence why i have stayed with them for so long,

Now i did have period that my connection was poor but they were more than happy to help and seemed to get it sorted out within the time frame i was told, but other than that ive had a good experience with BT,

Hope you get it sorted out?,the best thing to do is lift the phone and tell them that you wish to cancel your contract as they are in breach of contract as the service your getting is not fit for purpose....i would imagine they will soon help you?if they think your going to jump ship;),

Cheers Scuderia

I've been with BT for about 4 years and other than a pig of a time at the start (they kept our line @ 512k which was the line speed with Orange previously) they've been fine. Not a fan of the ****ty homehubs but I've got myself a nice Linksys Gigabit Router and it's all good. I get about 5 meg which is about as good as I'll get at this distance from the exchange.

I was going to find this thread and post something on it today and forgot, thanks for reminding me!(y)

I phoned them today about it being less than 0.3Mbps and this Indian guy went through his expert system ect and then said that it could be a line fault and the engineers will call tomorrow about 5pm. Lets hope it is so we can get this piece of crap sped up!

Did you try connecting the router to the engineer's socket (bypassing phones etc) without a filter on as well?

Also tried cable connection rather than WiFi? I've seen cases where people's home appliances have caused havok with their WiFi but direct connected it would zoom a long!

I'd never go with anyone other than BE now I've experienced real broadband. Shame you can't get it in your exchange.

After phoning BT and going through their system etc, them testing the line from there and going to send an engineer out on Friday (got to phone and move it to another day), the speed has gone up! (Without an engineer coming... o_O

That's all I got until I went with BE and installed a Netgear DG834GT router with "DGTeam" firmware I've managed to 'tweak' it up to 7.24mbit now . My downstream attenuation hovers between 49.5-53db's

Cool :) Tbh I'm not that bothered as I can stream HD iPlayer stuff and it's more than enough bandwidth to play games online. I suspect there's probably not a huge amount in terms of custom firmware out there for the WAG320N anyway. I only got it as it was the cheapest ADSL2+ router out there which did Gigabit too.

I wouldn't count on it I've got a brand new WAG160N I got for £20! unfortunately it was the wrong chipset :(.

The OpenWrt goes on but you get no ADSL or ethernet connectivity lol.

That could be a slightly problem :p

I've got an AG241 spare, I might have a play around with that for a larf :)
