Ok. I have a toshiba portage 7020 CT, and the screen has given up the ghost. Spec is
366MHz 128MB Ram, 6.3GB HDD. The question is can i run windows XP embedded in that and use it as SAT nav in my car with a Lilliput toutch screen? Or do I chuck it? anybody with any answers please let me know.. Also if I can upgrade the CPU to a 550 MHz then I know that I can do the above.

Suggestions please.

give it to me!!!!! i have a portege 3440ct that i dropped and it needs a new hard drive and a Inverter (?)

PLEASE!!!!!

or would you like to have mine, to fix yours?

I wouldn't think you could run any version of XP on 128MB ram. I would salvage what you can out of it and chuck the rest. Depends what you are replacing it with or using as an alternative.

Not replacing it with anything, I can't afford it... Have looked up the specs for XP embedded, it'll run but how well we'll see. Its not for grabs at the moment, as it still has some important documents on it for my 4th year at uni... like my project, and I need to get that off the HDD.

I think its going in the car... I've just pulled the whole thing appart, docking station and all. Its going to need some modifying, and a screen, but it'll go in the glove compartment once I've hacked it around a bit.

XP will run fine with 128 RAM, but its the processor i'd be worried about. I tried running it on my old lappy which was a 650MHz and that was like a dog. Providing its got a VGA or TV out, you should be fine with an external screen as long as its the screen thats gone and not your graphics card.

Its definatly the screen, I was using it with the docking station for ages.

Ok it all fits together and works without its plastic bits

if i remember correctly, XP only needs 64 mb minimum possibly depending on what version u have.
XP Embedded?! Good luck finding it.

Didn't know they did it... can only remember NT Embedded.

XP Pro works, but slowly, on my old Compaq laptop with 64mb and a 366 Pentium 2. I used to run win98 on it and it was quick enough but I couldn't get my allegedly 98-compatible wireless card to work with it. :bang: XP sorted that, but it takes ages to boot and is dog slow.
