Networking XP to VISTA

Hi guys,

Quick question.
I have XP , bro has VISTA , how can i network then so he can access stuff on my HDD and vice versa.

Currently both machines are wire networked through a router to access internet.

For the life of me i cannot remember

Can someone refresh my memory please

Re: Networking XP to VISTA

Have you enabled file sharing ? at least one will need it.

I hope you have the same domain name

If all else fails try using the ip address to open the other comp in explorer

Re: Networking XP to VISTA

Making sure it is on is only step one, you have to specify what you are sharing. On your machine go into My Computer and navigate to the folder you want to share, right click on it and choose "Sharing..." - from here my memory is fuzzy but there should be option to create a shared folder and to give it a name ... hope that helps

I run Vista on here and my bro uses XP. He can connect to my shares no problem but I can't seem to be able to connect to his. Tbh I hadn't noticed it before as everything is on my machine anyway so I'll see if I can find out what is causing it.

Ofc, if I can't figure it out there is always the easy way ... take Vista off and put on XP

Re: Networking XP to VISTA

Vista is a bit more problematic to sort out. I have the same setup at my house with my sister using vista me using XP. It took a bit of pissing about with vista to let xp see and use the files.

Look here for a detailed explanation. http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...3125&SiteID=17

Re: Networking XP to VISTA

Spot on mate, will give that a read

Edit: Just had a quick read and that goes on the assumption that Norton is causing the issue, which in my case it isn't since I have never and will never touch it with the legendary barge-pole. However, if you're running Norton PsychoFox, then that looks like it should cure your headache. If not then join me in shunning Vista and returning to Xp
