wont work wirelessly so i'm trying to see if it'll work this way, thanks a lot!

Re: Wired connection to router?

If you are using ethernet make sure you haven't got a crossover cable by mistake.

If you are using USB remember you need to load the drivers BEFORE connecting the device.

Re: Wired connection to router?

Are you trying to connect to another computer via a network or just using the router as a means of connecting to the internet?
Can you enter the router ip adress in your browser to access the router config menu?

run Network Set Up Wizard from the control panel, that might get you up and running

Re: Wired connection to router?

I'm trying to connect to the internet through my router using a wires connection off the router.

it wont connect through IE with the IP address because it isn't connected.

the only connection i can seem to make with the wizard is a daft dial up one lol.

cheers!

Re: Wired connection to router?

can you confirm you have a working network card?

go to device manager and look under network adapters... (wont prove if it works, but tells you what ya got!)

Re: Wired connection to router?

The above will also tell you if the PCI LAN card has the relevant driver installed.

Have you had to reinstall Windows at any point since last using the LAN connection? If so it may be missing some drivers.

Device manager will show up any devices that are missing their drivers - Usually symbolised by an attention warning triangle.

Try checking for network settings via an IP Config (go to Start, Run, CMD, type IP Config, hit Enter). Does it pick up any network settings? If so, can you ping the IP address? - In command prompt (CMD) type ping then a space and then the IP address then press enter.

Re: Wired connection to router?

i'm not 100% sure about the net card TBH i swapped it over to a different port and it actually worked for a bit if i remember rightly.

after it stopped i done a system restore and it worked, next time the PC was turned on it wouldnt work again.

will try ipconfig, forgotten about that, cheers!
