What do you qualify as student type work? mine involves quite heavy data analysis and processing, would take days on that!

in the same way you can walk instead of taking your car.

a sempron with half a gig of ram would be ok for entry level use of XP, but not good enough for vista. you'd be waiting 3-5 mins to boot, and word would take ages to open, if it could even open once vista has taken all that ram and then created a huge page file on the HDD to work (slowly) from.

will that memory work in it? because i though i nick it and give her my 2x1 gig sticks, but i put them in my pc an it no boot. i cant find thread with my pc spec but i know mine ddr2 and same make of memory

I don't think 800 will work, 400 should maybe 533 at a push but I'm not 100% sure.

as for your pc Dave it think yours is 667 or 800.

Yup, that memory will work in yours, cos it's the same speed. But I doubt, Mrs Dave's pc will work with that memory.

i got that set to auto

Set it to 1.8v with the new memory in a see if it boots.

will it run both new an old at same time? if not i may as well just send it back an get her 2 gig of what fits hers
