Opinions on this website

Well, i'm trying to design a new website for my dads company. Its got to be simple, but flash and quite informative.

Its not finished yet,the text is pretty naff and its currently hosted on a freespace website so ignore the advert bar on the right!

Just wondered what you all thought

I've only put flash on the first page really because I didn't want the users to get bored of a million effects all the time lol

nice and clean, easy to navigate. its still early days but its coming along nicely.

main thing on website these days is layout and navigation and that seems ok

its a nice base to build apon

Not a site building guru by any means, but how about a change of colour/style in the text to make it obvious it can be clicked? I realise you've mentioned the text though, so its maybe in the pipeline.

Its the classic text used to fill div's and columns to give an idea what the site will look like with content.

I think flash for the whole thing is complete overkill and much better could be achieved with javascript but whatever!

it is still early days you're right. There's alot to do but anything is better than what we have up there at the moment!! It was thrown together 8 years ago in a front page template with the intention of changing it instantly. As usual these things never get done so i've left myself the task of doing it!!!

As for javascript...i know what you mean but I'm not fluent in it i'm good with CSS, XHTML, ASP.NET and Flash but that's about it really also looking into Silverlight but we'll have to see...i'll keep you all updated

Personally I'd never build a site completely in flash .... use it for the headers and some fancy text by all means, but the whole design .....

I don't do it normally and i'm not sure if I will still keep it like that or not. I will most likely seperate it all out, it just depends whether I use the flash features throughout or not.

A full flash site won't be very SEO friendly and what if the visitor doesn't have flash installed?

Exactly, such as everyone in the MOD and Central Government . Which can be quite important if your business appeals to this sector.

luckily our business doesn't really deal with the MOD lmao. but i'm putting together another site which is not using any flash or javascript or anything. Will be as similar as it can be using only html and css. I'll have a page which distinguishes what the user is running and directs them accordingly but you can do so much more with flash its unreal...
