Anyone use a Mac???

Anyone here use an iMac. Have been thinking about one for ages, but have a few questions.

1. Can you stream Media to a console, ie PS3 like you can now?
2. What sort of photo/video or music software is there installed when you buy one?
3. Whats the best one to go for on a budget that isn't slow?
4. Is it worth going from PC to iMac?

Re: Anyone use a Mac???

1.) There is a couple of forum posts regarding the subject, but its extrememly filthy IF you can get it to work:-

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...g+to+ps3&meta=

2.) Not much IIRC you have to buy it from the likes of Adobe.

3.) No Idea maybe the Mac fanboys can step in but from my semi limited experience each one i've used has been slower my my homebuild PC that cost £400.

4.) Not unless your going into professional image editing at the likes of a magazine or something.

Im sure one of the Apple fanboys will come along and praise it like no tomorrow. But thats my view and I have used and or supported both for along time so im not biased AND Im also a Linux user so not tied into using Windows for everything .

i have a macbook, and ive used G5's and imacs alot in the past few years due to being in design.

dunno about the console thing, but with mac in terms of photo/video/ music stuff. theres iphoto, and itunes. and theres video editing stuff called imovie. which aint great, but proper editing software you'd have to buy (photo and video) much like you'd have to with a pc. video = final cut, and photo would be photoshop being the best of the bunch in both respects.
ive never used a mac and called it 'slow' my old ibook was the lowest spec one possible, and never let me down, much like my new macbook. ive never had one hang, freeze, or crash, unlike my PC that does each of them things at least once a day and ive never had it infected with viruses.

only down side is the fact they are quite specialist, so if anything does happen... mac shops to fix them are few and far between, and pricey. as are parts.

Anyone can fix them... that can fix PC's anyway, but your right most of the parts are speciallist and cost 2-3 times more than PC.

Re: Anyone use a Mac???

From what i've heard they are not great for syncing with consoles but it can be done.

All I can say as far as switching is concerned (I switched over a year ago) is use one, play with them in a store and if you like the OS then get one. I will not buy another PC as I think OSX is much better than windows but that is my opinion.

Similar but just stupid and awkward. Most technicians won't touch them simply because they are a mac but they are easy to repair. I'd still charge more than a PC

Well if they can afford a premium for an inferior computer they can afford a premium to keep it working LOL . I got £100 for swapping a semi knackered graphics card that took me 10minutes (£25 from markup on the part itself and having to deal with Apple... YUK and £75 from fitting it) .

Re: Anyone use a Mac???

i got a mac.

if all you want to do is basic thinks like browse the web, music n fun stuff but not games they are great

i can safely say its given me no trouble in the year iv had my macbook

ok it isnt blazing fast but it doesnt get bogged down like windows so it doesnt need epic amounts of ram nor a huge processor

i wouldnt go back to windows, unless i was forced to.

im not sure about the console streaming, i think it would simply work off storing all your music in a folder on a network wich would work regardless if it was a mac or a pc.
