Linux OS

I would say that Ubuntu is the most user friendly and will be best for someone that is used to Windows. Or you could check out Kubuntu which is Ubuntu with the KDE desktop, which is more similar to Windows than GNOME is. (y)

You caould always get Ubuntu on disk, and have it boot off the CD rom.

That way she can see if she can get along with it, and then if she does, you could set up a dual boot

Yeah definatly get a KDE based OS have a look at mandriva it has a 'Live CD/DVD' that lets you try the OS before actually installing it on your hard drive :). If your happy with it its got an icon on your desktop to install it to your hard drive. By the way when its running off CD it is alot slower than it will be on your harddrive.

Also make sure you have a way of getting windows back if necessary.

Please don't install linux on the Mrs's laptop. If she's used to Windows leave her with windows.

It's not worth the trouble if something does go wrong. At least with windows you can blame it on MS :) Put it on your workstation, or your laptop and have fun. But is it worth the hassle on her computer?

Id tend to agree with that too. or at the most dual boot it and set it to default to windows with a 3 second time out and she wont even notice
