Newbie with a Quick Question

Hello newbie here, just been pointed to your site by a good friend of mine.

Well I have just bought a Seicento 1.1sx on a Y plate the other day as a small second car. I think I got a cracking deal as the car has 20K miles on it when I bought it and we paid £1950 with 4 month left on the original Fiat warranty. The car is mint with a full service history.

Now here are my questions : I want to put some different oil in the car and as I have 5 litres of Fully Synthetic oil which is just sitting in my garage I would like to use this. The oil I have is 0W40 I think, now I know I have to flush the old oil out and replace the filter as the oil in there is looking a little grubby but has anyone replaced the oil in their car with Fully Syn or is it not a good idea ?

Generally you don't put full syn in a car until it's run in and as mine has done 20K this should be OK unless someone can tell me different ?

BTW the forum handle has a long history and couldn't be the furthest away from the truth ;) beside I am an old git [8D]

Thanks in advanced Ivan :D

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Fiat recommend 15w40 oil, you could use 10w40 but I wouldn't really recommend 0w40 as it's too runny for a thrown-together Fiat engine.

Fully syn is ok you could go 10w40 without any problem been using 10w40 semi synthetic in punto for the last 40,000 miles with no problems change it every 6.000, i flush with a mix of half petrol half 20/50 cheep oil no way im paying £10 for a gallon of flush, i wash out filter in petrol and put it back before flushing, then put new filter on after the flush.

like i said before i flush with a mix of half petrol half 20/50 cheep oil (£3 a galon) turn the engine over for a bit with it in, fiat engines wont start with it in! wash out old oil filter in petrol and put it back before flushing, then put new filter on after the flush. if you can let it drain over night.

Cheers dude. Just looked at the oil I have in the garage it's actaully 5w30 Fully synthetic, so I refered back to the manual and you can use this in the car aparantly. Filters are about £5-£6 so I am gonna do this at the weekend.
