Hi,

I'm new to the forum, so my apologies if this has been covered. I have a Fiat Seicento S 1.1, which I believe has power assisted or power steering.

I was wondering if anyone knew which of these it has?

Also, for the driving test in Ireland (mine is coming up soon) you have to identify parts of the engine. I know where water and oil are, and I'm pretty sure that the resevoir up near the window and to the right hand side of the bonnet with (O) on it is brake fluid. But if my car does have power steering, and it has power steering fluid, I'll need to be able to point that out too.

So can someone please let me know what kind of steering the car does have, and what relevent engine bits are there?

Thanks.

I'm not sure that there is any difference between power steering and power assisted steering. Some Seis have power steering (as we'll call it). If yours has, a little steering wheel icon will light up on the dash whenever you start the engine.

The power steering on this car is electric. There is no steering pump, and nowhere to put power steering fluid.

I dunno what other bits you need to know. The gearbox is the bit hanging off the engine below the brake fluid reservoir, the clutch is cable operated, the adjuster is the big nut (often white) on the end of the cable, the windscreen washer reservoir is on the driver's side wing, and the big clear reservoir is for engine coolant.

That's brilliant, thanks for the really quick replies. All you need to do (in terms of under bonnet stuff) for the test is point out where the various resevoirs are, explain how you would check oil, etc. And I just wasn't sure about the power steering thing, and was dreading them asking me. The car was bought second hand, and didn't come with a book.

And since it's my first ever car, I'm all a bit new to this really <smile>

You have to do that on the UK test as well i.e. point out areas of engine

Hope they ask you where the PAS fluid goes, you will leave them stumped and the look on face will be a picture :D

Good luck on test
