my mess around mod.. free... awful.. pics inside

so spare time today.... bonnets open on the cinq... saw in hand.. and a hell lotta spanners and sockets..
this was the outcome of my boredom

basically cut the airbox in half... so instead of sucking it through a tiny hole.. sucks it in through the hole size of the panel filter..
took the pipe of the manifold and clipped it into another hole where a bolt previously was put one end at the front of the car (where is cool) and one into the airbox sort of a cold air feed if you like.. which i doubt makes any difference at all.. but hey its a bit of fun..
gives it a nice sporty sound a little bit of power increase..
good to do if you totally skint (like me at the moment)
slate it here

would have been better with a bigger pipe or a hole just the size of the pipe.now its drawing air from the exhaust manifold

custards right i'm afraid, thats just gonna make it slower, drilling holes in the top works for noise but makes no difference to performance really. My suggestion would be get straight down the scrappies and get a new airbox, drill it if you so desire but don't do that!!

If you leave it like that, move the end of the pipe down so its behind the openings on the bumper drawing cold air from outside the engine bay.

LOL, ive done something similar to mine whilst im waiting for my GSR to arrive.

Ive done it slightly different to how you have done it, i left the bottom section on so that the hot air cant come up from the exhaust. I must admit you do get a nice induction note due to the ressinace inside the box and possibly slightly smoother power.

Ill post some pis up later when i get home from work.

Why not put some kind of heat shielding above the manifold, and then maybe steal a few more manifold hoses from a scrappy and have 3/4 air feeds from the bumper, should work better.

Yup, you are drawing hot air in, which is not as dense as cold air. Remember that the hole on the inside is only 30mm.

Cheers

Re: my mess around mod.. free... awful.. pics inside

if u had a sheet of thin ally that sheilded off the top of the exhaust manifold then that'd help - as it is, it'll be worse than stock.

Re: my mess around mod.. free... awful.. pics inside

My halfway attempt. Combined with a free flow air filter. Was going to open up the entry point to drainpipe diamenter, then i got the Novitec air box....

Mate banned me from getting the GSR.

Yup, the hose is there to pipe cold air in from outside the engine bay when on the move, thats a `power down` modification, sorry to say.
