I asked a simlar question about centos at my local Alfa/Fiat independent and the answer I got was:
Early Cinq sportings can pass without a cat as after a certain date you are required to have a cat regardless of emissions. However if you have an emptied cat or a de-cat that has a cat like resonator chamber you'll likely pass as the MOT tester isn't going to do more than look for a vaguely cat shaped object in the exhaust system.

graham, that is not correct. You do not need a cat. If the engine can pass the cat emissions test without a cat, then that's fine.

Do you have any more info with regards to cinqs that are allowed to have a non-cat test, as they allow for more emissions, and it'd be nice if i could put mine through that instead :D

Arc, that is what I was told by a local garage that does MOT testing, I have not looked at the MOT testers guidelines my self.

someone posted the date, didnt yours come beofre that arc?

The reason why I started this thread was that I have seen lots of comments like "it is possible to pass an MOT" but didn't recall anyone saying my car has had it's cat removed and it passed an MOT emmisions test so here I am

Also mine is on a R plate, early 98, so i don't think year has that much bearing. But it does have an empty cat can

I have a feeling it is all the enginework etc and the fact she is running like a dream that allowed my car to sail through.

I suppose that it is still no guarentee that a bogo Cinq with its cat removed would pass.

Right, according to the MOT bible:
Cars produced after 92 i.e. K reg must have a cat fitted.
The emissions pass rate is based on the age of the engine not the car......
However, as has been said before, the MOT tester has to be aware that the engine has been changed to know to test at a different level than that dictated by the age on the reg plate and most MOT testers in my experience assume that it's the original engine cos they're after an easy life.
As allanhelen said regarding the cat, most MOT testers will just be looking for a vaguely cat shaped thing in the exhaust.
My cinq (98 R) flew thru the emissions with an empty cat, it's got a mcritch chip and a panel filter and doesn't run perfectly by any stretch of the imagination.

Cool (y)

What were you limits and your actual readings?

Don't need an empty can on there though, if it passes you don't need to trick them into thinking there is one. I asked loads of place that. Shame mine didn't have the same luck when i was getting MOT lol.
