Arrow Few painting Q's & other bits & bobs....

Just asking these Q's as the g/f doesn't want to ask incase she comes across as sounding daft, whereas i don't care She'll probably be reading this at some point, so... HI

1. Robbed this pic off of Liam's post.

She wants to paint round the dials yellow as i've so fantasticly shown using the paint airbrush, lol. I've seen the thread this image came from, but i didn't get how you'd get access to the dials like that, with the plastic screen in the way & all, which on hers could be doin with a damn clean. She doesn't want the rest of the dash painting i don't think. Just around the dials
Oh, and also, the radio surround. Hers is currently cassette. She'll be getting a CD player. Best to do before or after? Either way...how? As i don't know & she deffinately doesn't know
Think that's it for the painting

2. gear knob. I know she'd like it changed. But i think she read that it has to be sawn off?? Whereas on my Escort it simply screws off. Think we could be giving this a miss then if it needs to be sawn.

3. One's she hasn't thought of which i'll ask anyway - she has the 1.1 sporting on a '97 P. What's the fuel tank capacity & also, what's oil do you advise to be used?
Asking as with the oil, the guy i bought mine off said he just threw any old oil in, but the bloke i see at the garage said it had to be like 5/40 or something, or at least that's what he'd advise for my Escort. So how about her fiat?

4. Initially, her first problem was the red seat belts. She didn't like them. Something about colour matching. Women Any way of taking the red ones out and having normal black or yellow ones put in?

3. The tank is about 35~40l, should be good for about 300miles maybe 400 if you're doing loads of sustained speed motorway work.

4. You can get all different colours of belt, I've seen yellow belts in a local tuning shop.

Re: Few painting Q's & other bits & bobs....

OK.. before she does anything, go out and spend £15 on a haynes manual. You'll find most of the info you need in there.

In case you don't wanna spend it, here goes:

1. Once the dials are out, they dismantle, so yes this is possible, I wouldn't imagine it being too diffcult.

2. The gear knob has to be sawn off if you want to use an aftermarket one, as it is attached to a long shaft.

3. Fuel tank capacity = about £28 from empty, not sure of the actual amount!! Oil - I put 15/40 in mine.

4. Seatbelts shouldn't be too much of an issue. Plenty of black ones around, the red ones are more popular!!

Good luck!

Guide for removal of gear knob. This one done on a cinq sporting. You will also need an OMP adaptor

Re: Few painting Q's & other bits & bobs....

1. Clocks dismantle. The bit you've highlighted is all one piece of plastic, which can be separated from the rest of the clocks

2. Gear knob needs to be cut off. As mentioned, you'll need an adaptor to fit an aftermarket one (IIRC you'll only be able to fit an OMP gear knob with an OMP adapter)

3. Fuel tank is 35 litres. Fiat recommend 15W40 oil, but 10W40 has been used plenty of times before.

4. Coloured seat belts should be easy to get hold of. Black ones are the norm for the base model Cinqs.

Re: Few painting Q's & other bits & bobs....

would the seat belts fit on to my seicento? I really fancy some red ones to go with my interior, just wandering whether they would fit or will i have to look else were?

Cheers

Re: Few painting Q's & other bits & bobs....

ginner got on the PM to me, but the g/f has changed her mind about her red seatbelts. Decided she doesn't mind them now.

Rather than make a new thread for this Q, i'll ask it here...

Her motor had a 180mile trip down from Scotland the other week. I did a bit of running in town last week & then decided, could be best to check the oil...

It's pretty low, a bit above the min marker, so could be doing with a bit. 2 questions::::

1. these aren't known for guzzling oil are they? My Escort is terrible & needs topping up virtually fortnightly, although i think that's just an issue with MY car and not Escorts. Wondered about the Centos

2. Had a look in the handbook, but couldn't find it/must've missed it ... how much does it take from minimum to maximum. My min-to-max is about 1litre. Wondered what hers would be.

No, they don't use loads of oil. I changed my oil few thousand miles ago and now need to change it again and i haven't needed to top it up at all..
Dunno how much you need tbh, i just fill it up a bit and leave to settle and add a bit more until its right.

Re: Few painting Q's & other bits & bobs....

Oh yeh, it uses a bit of oil, but they aren't like a big jap turbo motor that needs topping up constantly was my point. My car has only done 5000 miles or so since the last change but i like to keep it fresh. If i left it in for a whole year it'd probably need a top up along the way i imagine.

Re: Few painting Q's & other bits & bobs....

Mine usually requires one top up between services, and the level tends to stabalise just under the max mark

they do use a bit more oil if they are being thrashed along the motorway but general running they no worse than any other car

it's only rear, but could be a start for you if you can find some front ones at some point
