Question Flywheel sensor stuck - fan belt removal ??

I hope someone out there can answer this as I’m a bit stuck.

About three weeks ago, after picking up some hints from this site I renewed the alternator on my daughter’s 1998 Seicento S – taking off the wheelarch splash covers it was no problem … except the heads to the Posi- headed fixing bolts securing the flywheel sensor in place both sheared – meaning I couldn’t slip off the old belt to renew it. Still the belt didn’t look too bad – so I left it on. Now, unfortunately it is slipping and needs replacing.

Does anyone know :-

A the size of the threaded fixing bolts on the flywheel sensor and do you think I could get them out with a bolt extractor bit set ?

B Could I just drill out the bolts (space very tight really)

C Is there any other way of getting the belt off and a new one back on ?

Thanks

Yah, just take the pulley off, don't have to disturb the sensor then. 62Nm to tighten them up again. Put it back on making sure the hole in the pulley corresponds to the pin on the crank pulley.

I did think about that but was a bit concerned about timing slipping - does the pulley come off fairly easily and is there only one way it fits back on ?

Cheers for the advice

Re: Flywheel sensor stuck - fan belt removal ??

Timing won't be affected at all The alternator belt pulley is a seperate pulley which bolts onto the cambelt pulley. All will become clear when you take the three bolts off and pull the pulley away. It may help to slacken the alternator belt off by sliding the alternator to let you refit the pulley easier. However I did it without. It does only refit one way, but like I said, just line the pin with the hole and it'll work

Forgot to add, you'll need to quite literally 'stick a spanner in the works' to stop the pulley from turning while you tighten/loosen the bolts.
