Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

getting really pissed off now with the ammount of fuel i keep loosing due to the fuel line hitting against the strut brace.

i have a Novitec Alu strutbrace fitted on my seicento and its so close to the extra injector on the TB that when giving it some makes the engine rock thus the fuel pipe hitting the Strut brace and peircing through the rubber.

ive seen many different types of strutbrace on the forum just wondering if an OMP brace sits differently then the Novitec one?

its a MK1 seicento no ABS or aircon so nothin really to get in the way.

does anyone have any pics of one fitted.

pic is below of how the novitec fits.

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

TBH i would me more concerned about going up in a ball of flames rather than loseing fuel if a fuel pipe keeps bursting, as it could run down on to the exhaust pipe as it goes under the engine and pass's below where the throttle body is.

When on the rolling road, Emmas car on full chat the throttle body was visibly closer to the sturt brace fitted on her car, we esitmated that the engine moved about 12~15mm mm on boost as the gap almost closed up to almost nothing, yet was about 18mm on idle.

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

The solution is you need to trim the fuel injector down lower to attach the pipe and hose clip too. Fuel injectors are not meant to be fitted with hose clips, but on these set ups they are.

So remove the injector, its only held in with grub screws, and trim the plastic outer section down to leave a longer exposed metal tube on which the pipe and hose clip can get a better grip, VAD did this just no enough IMHO.

Aaron.

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

mine was the hose clip pinching the pipe i got around it by giving it a nicer angle (taking it further over then back) and using the hose grip type things as opposed to the clips... if that makes sense...

i did just use clips until this happened the other week, which led me to look into and carry out an alternative...

p.s. this is reason for a buggered freshly sprayed bumper and why im after standard bumpers, this one will be for sale shortly but does require a full rub down and respray

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

its not so much the length of tube it has to go on its just space, when mine is doing is when the engine rocks its bashing the hose clip into the brace and making it cut through the hose untill it just splits and fuel pisses out all over my engine i know its done this coz i can smell it really bad in the car, its been the 3rd time in 2 weeks its done this now so its either no strutbrace or one thats going to fit.

ill sell my novitec brace 1st, shame i cant try an MPi one before i buy just to make sure it deffently fits ok

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

THis is a pretty good pic of a Bosch injector as used on VAD set up

You can trim it right down to just above the clip for the electrical supply, this should give you at least 10mm of exposed metal fitting, enough to get a proper purchase with a hose clip and stop it coming off, and as you can see from cross section the metal section is all the way down so trimming the plastic off will not render the injector useless. At present you may find that the exposed metal is shorter than the actual hose clip therefore it is only hanging on rather than being fully tighten around the pipe and will eventually pop off.

Remember a fuel line clip is not meant to be put on very tightly as it will cuase the pipe to split. If you are feeling very brave once the injector is trimmed back use a dremel type device and machine a small lip in the top of the metal section this will provide a more secure fitting, there is more than enough metal there, mine was like this and so is the injector on Emmas turbo.

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

Yes excellent pic John, forgot about that. You can see on Fingers car that the pipe goes all the way down to bottom of injector and there is enough pipe to leave a little bit exposed at bottom but still be 100% secure.

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

might get the TB cover holes welded up on top and turn the injector around a bit more

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

if you look at the pics of where the injector and strutbrace are on that cinq you can see it has about 20mm gap between.

on mine the brace is actually bending the fuel hose down as its touching the brace already and no gap what so ever

Why, I've told you how to fix it, and you will find that the injector being round can be rotated in the housing if you loosen the two grub screws that hold it in place, so you can turn it round so that the fuel pipe is other side and electrical fitting is closer to strut brace bar. And fit a longer section of pipe and bring pipe over top of the bar.

I can't spoon feed you anymore here, think laterally.

Re: Strut brace on turbo keeps splitting fuel line :(

i know the fuel injection bit is just thraight through no matter which way i face it, the fuel line will still hit the brace bar.

what brace are you using on that cinq? as yours bends back when it comes to the TB mine is forwards all the way along thus not allowing me enough room for the injector/fuel line
