Re: Best options for torque gains?

If funds were tight you could opt for the Punto 75 cam.

TBH, I don't think you could go far wrong with an allanhelen spec cinq.

Re: Best options for torque gains?

I'm reading this with interest as I want the same thing, top speed on the bog roads in Ireland is not an issue as dodging the ditches id more of a priority, I have on the other hand got access to a punto 75, all the bits of which are free !
I don't want to rip my engine out as it's only done 50k and I know it's still as sweet as.
What bits can I rip off the punto that will plop onto the Cinq with relative ease ?

*sorry about the thread jack, thought it would save a new post and everyone having to repeat themselves*

Take the 75 head & manifold, get it all gas flowed, get the valve seats cut properly and have the cam profile changed. It's not hard to make the SPI ECU use the MPI manifold & you'll get better fueling.

Saying that, seriously do as above then go for a full 75 engine swap if you know it's a good one, I've driven StoneNewts 75 engined Sei & it's silly quick for the money that's been put into it. He's not done much, sports exhaust manifold, cat & cat back system, induction kit, C&B 268 cam and that's it I think. One point though, he started from an MPI Sei.

Re: Best options for torque gains?

I was thinking of spending next to nothing
If the cam and TB are straight bolt on's then I'd be more than happy with that, it's the wifes daily drive so I don't want to go to wild as she's already managed to collect 2 speeding tickets with the thing in standard form.

If I was to go the route of a full engine transplant then I've got a spare Kwaka 900 engine in the shed, that would be an instant 85bhp, and I know that they fit perfectly in the boot

But hasn't enough torque to push something weighing at least 5 times that of a bike!

Re: Best options for torque gains?

One thing that makes my Sei' 'silly quick' isn't what's happening at 5~6.5krpm but what's happening at 1.5~3krpm, while it's no >100lbft turbo monster ask for power in that area and she'll obligee you with smooth acceleration, rather than a slight tendency to gain some speed, even in 5th gear (30 to 60mph).

Actually I have, quite a few and they still weigh less than a car does.

Re: Best options for torque gains?

the cento 1108 unit weights a little under a 100kg & that might have been with box can't remember. Making the Cento chassis at about 600~650kg, that's an awful lot of weight for a bike engine. Yes I'm sure they're quick at the top end but I doubt that engine would result in a car that's as drivable as a 75 engined cento.

The only bit of the 75 engine worth keeping is the cam and valve springs if you're not doing a swap.

Re: Best options for torque gains?

The SPI & MPI TBs aren't interchangeable I believe.

I don't have a CBT, only ever ridden a scooter once on the road, I tried supermotarding one round my village . I have ridden late 60's/early 70's trials bikes (so road bikes converted basically) on and off from the age of 13, the heaviest being a Royal Enfield, built like a tank! Have also ridden montesa cotas, a bultaco, an ossa m.a.r. and a ty175, none of which are particulary lightweight.
