Nope, no injector light, not even a flicker.

Frenchwood, I thought that you weren't supposed to separate the TPS from the throttle body as it had to be set up or something?

Re: Argh! Bl**dy Cinq!

Basically the TPS is a resistor.

At low revs the resistance is less than high revs.

So if the bottom half of the switch has had it, low revs & tickover will misfire as the ECU tries to compensate for the lack of signal.

Usually when the ECU is compensating, the car runs REALLY rich and so chokes itself out a lot, hence the rough running, and almost impossible tickover (the idle stepper motor has to work overtime!!).

When you floor it, the TPS works at the top end, send a clear signal and wham, the ecu knows what to do, and so it works fine.

You'll tend to find that driving over 3000rpm is fine, provided you are constantly accelerating. if you hold throttle position it will start to kangaroo.

You'll also notice occasionally, that the Injector light will come on. This is because the ECU is running the engine too rich and the lambda sensor reads unburnt fuel, the ECU then compensates again and the car starts to lurch, the light goes off, the ecu thinks it's fine and so it over-compensates again. Et-Voila, you have a nice little cycle of crap fueling which will:
a: empty your pertol tank really quick.
b: Kill the catalytic converter
c: wind you to the point of wanting to scap the car.

It really sounds dead like the issue i was having. It's worth the £30 i paid for it as it was an instant fix that took literally 5 mins. If i were you, i'd give it a go.

You can on the Cinq TB. FPUK part number is TP034. No set up required provided the throttle sits closed properly. Just don't be tempted to connect the new TPS without removing the battery - You might damage it.

Hope that helps.

Re: Argh! Bl**dy Cinq!

Cheers dude, I've got a spare TB, still on other spare cinq, do the TBs separate from the spacer plate without destroying the gaskets usually?

Re: Argh! Bl**dy Cinq!

In my experience - No. The gasket gives way.

Anyone had experience to the contrary?

cheers & Good luck

Re: Argh! Bl**dy Cinq!

OK, changed the TPS today, no difference though
Also changed the injector for another one with good o rings,
Also changed the crank postion sensor.
It's making me re-think giving up smoking

Re: Argh! Bl**dy Cinq!

Have you:
a: checked the cambelt is on correctly? and not jumped a notch or two?
b: Let the ECU calm down after a reset
c: Changed the Idle stepper motor?

Re: Argh! Bl**dy Cinq!

Cam timing's right.
ECU never misbehaved the last couple of times I've reset it.
Idle stepper motor? Does it affect full throttle/low revs?

The Idle Stepper Motor sits just in front of the TPS on the TB and controls the the minor adjustment of the throttle butterfly.

After a reset, the ECU will run "rough" for about the first week or so.

If it's not working properly on tick-over then the ECU has to guess at the fueling on tickover, and may cause problems.

Try swapping it out! If you need a new one though it's a FIAT only part.

Other than that, it could be a dodgy ECU.

Re: Argh! Bl**dy Cinq!

Gonna try swapping the map sensor 2morrow/today, then the ECU for the original unchipped 1, then maybe the ISM, then maybe threaten it with a damn good thrashing a la Basil Fawlty!

Thanx for all the help everyone
Sorted it on Saturday
Feel a bit of a retard though
Read so many times on here to check for sparks jumping when dark
Changed the map sensor, didn't make the slightest bit of difference.
Been wondering if the inlet manifold gasket was leaking so sprayed duck oil liberally on the inlet manifold, whoosh, ball of flame under the airbox, blew it out, thought about it for a bit, did it again with the same result.
Listened carefully and could hear the clicking of spark twixt plug and head
Changed the leads, which are about 3 months old, thought I'd cured it, hadn't,
Took #3 plug out to find 2 dirty great cracks down the porcelain.
Must have been a bit heavy handed when I swapped them from old engine to new
Just assumed that cos they were only about 2 1/2 months old it wouldn't be them and it must have been something I'd done when I was swapping the engine
What a retard!
On the plus side, it's quicker and more responsive than the old engine and I now have synchro on 2nd gear which is a vast improvement.
I've got 1 yellow sporting bumper but it has had the o/s/f corner repaired and primered.
