Am having problems with my fan again, not coming on, have looked at fuse and it looks ok, and have shorted out the switch and it still doesnt work

could it be the wire earthing somewhere? any suggestions?

cheers for any replies,
Ghost ;)

Kev says have you tried your relay?
If not that try the temp sender unit, he says he thinks it should be mounted on the radiator or the engine.

relay for the fan circuit? is there one?

They is not a fan relay just the switch in rad. If you have replaced switch and bridged it out put a bulb in the connector instead of the fan and see if bulb lights. if it does fan faulty. The fan gets a direct +12 feed all the time and the switch supplys the earth to the cooling fan.

fuse for the fan aint gone, have looked and it looks in one piece (one of those clearish ones)

not sure bout the dash heater lights, r they down 2 a fuse u reckon?

if i gotta change fan again i wont b happy! :p

yeah, that does sound like some wiring has gone. I had my heater control light out. quick bulb replacement sorted that out

yeah sounds like something has come loose. all my interior lights are on the same circuit and run off the same fuse... take it out and nothing lights up.

really depends if the previous owner did any custom wiring. mayb a connetor has worked its way loose tho and thast why half of the lighting aint working (i aint got a clue if the fan is wired to the heater too tho)...

my previous owner did loads of extra wiring... its quite hard to see whats going on underneith the dash. all the alarm wiring and the remote central locking. its literally a maze of wires and plastic boxes heh :p

the bulbs have got nothing to do with why the fan isn't working!! i'd say, take the fan switch off the radiator, get a multimeter and put the switch in boiling hot water, connect the multimeter (don't set to read voltage) to the fanswitch terminals and see if the meter changes it's reading. It should do if the switch operates, in which case it's not your switch that has the problem, possibly a faulty earthing problemfor the switch itself
