Sei Sporting V Smart

Had an amusing competition with a smart last night, Under normal acceleration on the dual carriageway a blue Smart decided to try and out pace me, I kept it in 4th and steadily gained speed but I could see and hear him screaming the little fella. He fall back at 60+. I guess their auto box saps a lot of their power.[8D]

Wahoo, well done, you beat a smart with a top speed of 83mph! It has a whole 600cc engine. It has a 0-60 of 18.3 seconds.

You must have really been pushing it.

Their automatic gearboxes don't "sap" their power, the fact they have a 600cc engine means their isn't much power. They are, like your car, a town car!

Next time you outrun a 3-wheeler I would love to know too :P

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

Yep, fair point, but it must have similar power to weight ratio to the Cinq... The Smart Roadster has 80BHp from a Turboed 750cc and weighs the same as a Cinq!

Bet that puts a proper Vimto smile on yer face!

Tom (AofB)

GrpN Catback Exhaust system is here...just need to get the bleeder on now!!

do you just post to try and stir things up pghstochaj, because really its all i ever see you doing

They are, like your car, a town car
yes.. they are both town cars.. so town car vs town car.. fair enough. If you don't want to hear about what sei's are doing then try not reading this forum?

FYI they are nippy little cars, and very easy to tune. 600cc yes, but its turbo'd..

Cinq Sporting - and yes, its broom yellow!

Lol, arc, can't you see the funny side of what the guys have written above, it's so, so, humerous!

I don't just post rude stuff to get things going, just when people race. Racing isn't allowed on the public roads and this one is especially funny as it's like racing a three wheeler against a bike, as good as the bike is compared to a three wheeler, it won't keep up.

A Sei sporting has an engine of roughly double the capacity. It's like putting a 2 litre Clio Sport against a Sei sporting, who would win?! Exactly.

Oh and you can never get huge amounts out of the 600 engine, standard it is less than 40HP i think, the 750 is obviously a lot better but this isn't in the car in question.

You don't think ALL i do is cause arguments do you? I hope not.

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

Of course he didn't and couldn't win, that's why I put 'an amusing competition'. You obviously didn't read my post and decided to blurt out about horse power and engine capacities and strangely bikes and three wheelers?! [8D]

no pghstochaj, i dont :)

however, please pleas pleas check your facts. Standard the smarts engine is around 55bhp, and has more torque than the 1108 FIRE unit.

A remap can bring that up to around 80. An adjustment of the turbo actuator can further increase the boost giving more power.

http://www.chipped-smart.co.uk/images/results.TIF

That is from a 600cc smart engine. 92bhp at the wheels and 216ft/lb of torque.. i would say that makes it quite a tuneable engine..

A friend of mine has a smart, and like i've said they are nippy little cars and by simply adjusting the actuator my mates smart is even more nippy..

What a pointless arguement! Why would you want to tune a 600cc engine??

Smart and Pure 2d Auto (01-02) 599/3 44 84 18.3 57 118 3

i.e. BHP = 44 according to Parkers anyway, assuming lowest spec so I wasn't far off. I agree, ,the smart has some potential if you want it to, i was once in france and over taken by one at over 100mph and looking fine! In its standard spec however, they are only nippy maybe 0-30 but we're talking about speeds up to 60+ where it's not intended to be.

I am sorry if i was nit picking, it's just it seemed funny someone put it up and someone said "YEAH! WELL DONE!" and, well, IMO, it doesn't show much! I think racing - on public roads - is a stupid idea, but if you really must, pick on something with a similar ability, there's no fun otherwise right?

Anyway, I agree with Steve, pointless argument.

Sorry to you arc for seeming as if I am critical about everything.

I'm off to tune my petrol flymo ;)

Thanks, my point was that the little Smart owner was screaming his car to try and race me but failed. I found it funny. I wasn't racing, just normal acceleration for dual carriageway driving.

Have been watching this thread with some amusement!!

Why would ANYONE want to tune ANY car?? Because they want to make it perform better!! Seems pretty obvious to me!!:D

My 600cc Smart is pushing around 90/95bhp because I have tuned it for more performance. I will also be tuning the Cinq when I get round to it, just like I have my BMW (Alpina engine, induction kit and chipped) this makes ME happy, and that's the point we all do it I thought??

Some people like their car to be standard, just like my Girlfriend wants her Cinq - and that is fine because that's the way THEY want it. Some people like to tune their car because they want it to go faster, and that is fine because that is what THEY want, but to say it's pointless tuning a 600cc engine, then why don't you just slag off all those (including myself and MOST other members on this forum) who want to tune their 1108cc Fiats??

Mark G was merely pointing out that a Smart had tried to race him and lost. This is pretty feasible seeing as a lot of Smart drivers don't seem to know how to drive the things properly!!

I have been a member of this forum since January and tend to post very little because I prefer to watch the messages, gather info on Cinq's and learn about them. I must thank MOST people for posting informative, interesting and useful facts about the cars. It's this sort of community that makes owning a Cinq more fun, but when it descends into slagging off other cars (Mark was referring more to the driver in his post!) then it tends to lose the good will that is generally shared amongst Fiat owners![:(!]

I take offence to people making vague, uninformed and innaccurate statements about ANY car - there is nothing constructive about it and generally puts other poeples noses out of joint!

Having been a member of the Smart club for over 4 years, the BWM Z owners club for over 5 years and the Mitsubishi Delica club for 2 years, in the short time I have been on this board, I have seen a high percentage of immature and unreasonable comments about other cars!

Cinq's and Sei's are GREAT little cars, why have I just taken ownership of my third? But to belittle other cars because you know so little about them is pretty naive to me.

My Mitsubishi has a 2.5 engine, the BMW 2.7, but the former does 0-60 in around 30 seconds....the BMW in around 6 seconds (too busy driving it to measure the times??) Is there any use in those facts??

Can't we just get on and enjoy the car - that's the reason there's such a lively following for them anyway isn't it??

Rant over!!

Bruce.

WELL SAID BRUCE!!!!

i agree, i don't like people to slag off other cars (except fords, my dad had an escort way back, the gearbox fell out [xx(])
I love my Cinqi to bits, and its all about being an individual, thats why i bought my cinq in the first place! :D

Errm, did you mean o-60 in 30 seconds????? [?]
