| Seicento burning rubber smell? My wife's Seicento 899cc has a burning rubber smell in the car on tickover. Just replaced slipping fanbelt 'cos I thought that might be it but the smell is still there. Any ideas?

| ' | Re: Seicento burning rubber smell? Def rubber? If the clutch is knackered it could be not disengaging fully, gear changes ok? Tried clutch adjustment? I only say that because not many things are moving that are rubber when the car isn't moving. Does it only appear stationary, or you think it just blows behind when moving? Kristian

| Re: Seicento burning rubber smell? Def rubber smell. Probably only noticeable when stationary. Clutch biting point is only just off the floor and 3rd gear crunches occasionally. Is it easy to adjust?

| ' | Re: Seicento burning rubber smell? Clutch sounds like it needs adjusting anyway. Dead easy to do. Pop bonnet, look on left hand side, near gearbox is a cable with threaded bar on the end, with an arm attached to it. To easily locate it, look in the engine bay and have an assisted press the clutch, it will move. There will be a nut that you can move on the threaded end of the cable. Turn it tighter (clockwise) several turns and try the clutch again. Repeat until satisfactory ![]() Kristian

| Re: Seicento burning rubber smell Does it only seem to do it on tick over? Is the smell stronger if you look under the bonnet? Check the exhaust to see if anything is burning on it as thats the favorite cause of burning smells. If theres nothing apparent, then we'll try and come up with some other things to check.

| Re: Seicento burning rubber smell? Adjusted clutch(which is much better) but smell is still apparent. Nothing on exhaust as far as I can see and smell is stronger under bonnet. Doubt if fan belt is too tight as smell was there before I replace old belt which was that loose it nearly fell off with slackening alternator.
