Re: lowering 60mm

Depends on the width of the wheel, tyres, offset.

As a rough guess, I'd say 60mm is about 14" max, but thats just a feeling and not backed up. I recon at 14" on 60mm, you will still get scrubbing and rubbing.

Hope your changinf the dampers as well for a drop that large.

Re: lowering 60mm

as I've found out today.. the Sei can take a rather tall tyre with very little rubbing on -30mm but that's on a skinny 175 wide tyre. If you go wider and you'll have more problems than I look to be having, though the Cinq arches help you I don't think they'll help that much.

Edit wasn't thinking I'm on -30 not -60

Re: lowering 60mm

Is this a standard Cinq or a Sporting?

Personally I think that 60mm is too much on a standard, way, way too much on a Sporting.

The result will be something that's impractical on anything short of a racetrack.

Even 14" wheels (depending on tyre fitment, etc.) can be a bit of a pain on standard cars lowered 40mm. Go to 15" and you're very likely to encounter problems. And it sounds like you're paying someone to do the work........

Re: lowering 60mm

Mines also an sx its been lowered 60mm and has 15's with 195/45 tyres. Ive got a small amount of scrubbing on the front arches (had no work done) and the backs are fine untill there is someone in the back but again its little scrubbing.

Re: lowering 60mm

The SX doesn't have an anti-roll bar, does it?

That would be the very first thing I'd fit.

Re: lowering 60mm

also the s / sx sits 20mm higher anyway. so lowering one 60mm is like lowering a sporting 40mm. it'd need an ARB though as has been said.

Thumbs up Re: lowering 60mm

i have the non sporting 900cc cento. i will be buying a strut brace for it upper and lower if i can afford it. and yes im getting it done by a garage and i will be keeping the standand dampers. im curious how much are dampers that would suit my cento and its 60 mm drop.
thanks

Re: lowering 60mm

It'll be cheaper to get your shocks and springs together as part of a kit, so that they are matched. 60mm drop kit would included shortned shocks. You can fit the 60mm springs without but your gonna seriously reduced the lifespan of the standard shocks.
As regard to strut braces, you need to get down the scrappies and take the anti-roll bar off a sporting, then get a aftermarket jobby for the top (don't put it on until the suspension is on, it'll just cause more understeer if you do)
Can't give you prices tbh, they vary widely from shop to shop and manufacturer to manufacturer, have a shop around is the best advice i can give there

Re: lowering 60mm

I've seen uprated gas shocks for aroun 160 a set, you're probably better off getting the springs and shocks together in a set as mentioned above, I'm on a -50mm drop by the way

Re: lowering 60mm

60mm drop for a sporting, or an s / sx? 60mm drop for a sporting is 80mm drop for an s / sx?

also, you need an anti roll bar - not a lower or upper strut brace. though an upper brace would be nice, lower not.

Re: lowering 60mm

Yep, anti roll bar. Like the man says, strut braces are nice (or at least, the top ones are -- you really can't use the bottom one except on a track). The ARB actually restricts the amount of roll and tends to cut out much of the understeer you get in the non Fire Cinqs and Seis.

My own view is that any Cinq or Sei will benefit. They were a factory fitment on all Fire Seis, so suspension height isn't a real consideration when fitting them.

The strut brace simply keeps the struts more in alignement when subject to extreme cornering loads (but by the time you get there in a 900 without ARB you'll be well through that hedge!).

The Fire Sei and Cinq sporting ones are identical. Get one from a scrappy, but drench all the nuts and bolts in WD40 the day before you take it off and get all the bolts and brackets.

Re: lowering 60mm

SPI Sei & Cinq ones are the same, MPI Sei has its own which should fit without moving anything on the car.
