Stripping down struts?

Hi
Anyone know if cinque struts can be dismantled or are they sealed for life?
Cheers
Adrian

Re: Stripping down struts?

Depends on how you define stripped - what are you trying to do?

Re: Stripping down struts?

Standard struts do not have removable inserts. I am not convinced anyone makes removable units, but I could be wrong.

Cheers

Re: Stripping down struts?

All you can do with the standard units is remove the swprings and replace the gaitors and bump stops.

I think Konis are rebuildable, but unless you really know what you're doing, forget it.

Hi
A lot of the rally guys convert there standard shocks to coilovers, they remove the welded on spring cup and weld on a threaded tube,
Demon-tweeks do them as does rally design,
I`ve been told you can do it with out stripping the guts from the shock but i thought it would be safer to remove it
Cheers

Aye, I know exactly what you mean Damn cheaper than buying coilovers off the shelf. I got a step by step magazine article on it somewhere, using Capri struts. IIRC they stripped the outside of the strut assembly as far as possible, but can't remember exactly what they did with the shock itself, but I don't remember them removing anything internal.
