| Strong Petrol Smell [V]Some time ago I asked for advice on a fuel problem.Unfortunately, the problem has returned, and I would ask if anyone can help. I have an 'L' reg Cinquencento 998cc. From time to time, especially with over half a tank of fuel, I get extremely strong petrol smells from the car. I've had a really good look round. Tank, filler neck, pipes, etc etc, but can see nothing obvious. I have been told that some of these cars had their tanks replaced by Fiat. Why was this?? Can anybody help here please. I'm quite worried about this petrol smell. Any suggestions, help would be really appreciated.

| Fiat did replace Cinquecento fuel tanks because they rotted away. Best thing to do is write down your chassis number from the VIN plate under the bonnet and give your local Fiat dealer a ring. You may struggle to get it done for free as the recall is oficially closed now. A new tank will set you back about £90 plus fitting if it's the problem. If they go it's generally above the seam on the sides of the tank. Mine was holed in 4 places on the passenger side.B) Could be something simple like the seal perished on the petrol cap though.
