ECU resetting

Today we have a different slant on the subject of ECU resetting.

My car has an FIA cut out switch. This takes all the power away from the car every time it is switched off.

Will this reset the ECU every time, I think it will, so whats the answer.

Cheers

Re: ECU resetting

Seperate live feed to the ECU? or would that be against regs?

you could use a seperate small 12v battery and have it wired via a relay you know like a UPS for a PC

That was my first thought, but strictly against the regs.

That sounds feasable, I think I'll have a look at how electric extinguishers are fired with the ignition cut.

Cheers

Re: ECU resetting

D.

Just had another thought what about a storage capacitor in the live feed for the ECU not sure how long it would power it for but could be a quick easy solution.

you might be able to hide it in the ECU case so no one would ever know

'period' being what? Seconds, minutes or hours? I'm in the same boat as rallycinq so i'd be interested in the answer.

Re: ECU resetting

Guessing I'd say it's in the region of an hour, I can't do a 3h charge of the battery w/out the ECU resetting

Re: ECU resetting

OK, so there's no problem leaving the master switch on, apart from the time when the scrutineer test whether it works

Re: ECU resetting

Both the punto and Sei seem to take forever to take at least 45min (punto took less time) before I got a noticeable difference in fuel consumption... that's the only indication I've got of a reset ECU

Re: ECU resetting

After resetting the ECU it then has to work out the exact 'landscape' it's in. Until it has an exact map for the 'landscape' it will use less than optimal fuelling.

Re: ECU resetting

When i disconnect the battery with the Mckrich chip you can tell straight away if the ECU has reset as the performance drops quite significantly. I basically diconnected the battery turned it round and reconnected it and you could tell the ECU had reset
