Rear springs - which direction?

Hi there,

Quick question - I just got my self a new set of OMP springs to be mounted shortly. I noticed that the rear springs I have in the car right now have all the coils evenly spaced (or so it seems). The new springs have 5 coils very close to each other and then 5 coils spaced out a bit more (normally I would say). So which side is up/down then?

Cheers,

Woj

I'm no expert but I would Imagine the 5 coils closest to each other go at the top so there is less movement at the top of the travel, I tried finding fitting instructions on OMP's website but there were none.

I doubt the way up will effect the springs response, you don't remove all movment from the 1st inch then 2nd etc the spring responds as a whole. Typically you'll put the tightly wound coils at the top.

Yep, makes no difference at all physically which way round they go.....i put the tight coils at the top so they trap less crap from the road, but other than that theres no right or wrong.

Functionally, I don't think it makes any difference. But if you put the close wound coils at the bottom they'll fill up with damp crud and possibly rot the trailing arms out in no short time.
