Battery Light

Help.

Just changed alternator on my cinq, the original problem I had (battery light on constant) has now been resolved.....however...........

Now the battery light is on constant and I haven't even got my key in ignition!!!!

I've disconnected the negative side of battery now, as I don't want to drain it totally.

Anybody any ideas?

Cheers

Does the light go out when you turn on the ignition? If so, disconnect the alternator. If the light stays on, with the ignition off, you have a wiring fault. If the light goes out with the alternator disconnected and the igntion off, you have a faulty diode in the alternator.

Alternator diodes can be replaced. You buy a module that contains all 9, generally, and they have to be soldered in.

Unhappy Re: Battery Light

I've disconnected alternator at spade (plug in) connector. Ignition off and light stays on!

Fault wasn't there before I changed alternator. With engine running, light goes out!!!!!

Please help!

Re: Battery Light

Hi Craig,

I had the same prob with my 98 sei but it only came on when the car was running but it was a really faint red light behind it. I got quite worried about it so decided to have a play with the connections etc and then it just wentand touch wood hasnt been back since. I would just have a play first
