| How to replace the o-ring in the diff? Hello, Since in this area of the engine I really don't know proper English names for things, I will use a picture (see below). After some consultance and looking into the matter, I think the o-ring in the diff leaks (as you can see on the picutre, it's a bit messy - and this is after cleaning up). The o-ring I talk about is marked with A and a red line (although probably it actuall sits a bit deeper). Now two questions: 1. What size is this o-ring? Does this have to be a special one from fiat, or a standard one (properly sized) will do? 2. Can I replace it without taking the gearbox out? My plan of attack would be the following (but I am not sure I interpreted everything correctly in the service manual). (a) I drain the gearbox (b) I take the drive shaft out (yes, I know, it only sounds simple) and take the exhaust out of the way. (c) I take element B (what's this damn thing called) out. According to my understanding it should just slide out, or am I totally wrong? (d) I replace the o-ring (that I guess will be tricky and brige will be needed for good access). (e) I put everything back together, not forgetting to put new gearbox oil in Or am I absolutely off... Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

| Re: How to replace the o-ring in the diff? I mean zimmer-ring - the metal ring with rubber sleeve. The stuff that you have to hammer in gently... /Woj

Ref: Item B. I think there's a circlip that retains this in place at the spline end. This should compress as you pull out the shaft (B). (B) should pull out by hand but if not then It's a two man job, One to use levers and the other to hit (B) with a hammer on it's side to help move it.

The shaft seal will have a number on it which I think refers to It's dimensions etc. You can take it to a bearing supplier and they should be able to supply you with one.

Reg. the numbers on the shaft seal - surely once I have it out I will know what size/type it is. But I would prefer to have it in hand before I start taking things apart... Cheers, Woj

I'm using the WKL book for the Seicento by Jozef Zembowicz and the Cinq one. The diagram seems to show a clip, and remember seeing this clip on a shaft but can't remember when. I'm shure the whole thing came out still attached to the drive shaft (by accident) and not much oil. But there probably wasn't much oil in the box anyway.

I have the WKL book for cinq (a translation from french), but it seems I should get my hands on the Zembowicz one too. Thanks a lot for the part number, just I hope the left and the right one are the same If it came off by accident then it should be doable on purpuse I guess. I was just under my car finishing things up, and it is definetely locked in somehow, cause it moves within circa 1mm range and then just stops (this is with all drive shafts and everything in place). Thanks cc1, that has all been very useful. /Woj

The shaft seal I took out of the car is slightly smaller than the one I got from Fiat, otherwise looks the same. So now I wonder if they are the same on the left and right, or different? I need a part number for a diff. shaft seal that goes on the right side for a CC Sporting. Given of course the one above is not right, it could be right, just somebody messed something up in Fiat... BTW I have the whole front suspension apart, one drive shaft, and the exhaust manifold and my car is nowhere near driveable.../Woj
