gear box oil and more....

Finally got my 899cc cinq running sweet, very pleased with it.

Now engine jobs are complete i want to tackle a few other things, there is a road speed related noise coming i think from the front passenger side wheel, it's not knocking more of a funny squeak, i've checked the disc looks almost brand new! and there's no play in the wheel bearings.any ideas?
also
I put a new thermostat on the other day, does the cooling system need bleeding, i can't see any bleed valves but a friend who once owned a cinq swore his had them.
and
I want to change the gearbox oil as shes done over 80k now and god knows if it's ever been done. I have a gallon of EP90 left over from my triumph spifire days and wondered even though the book says EP80 wether it would be OK.
also are there any worrys to be had when changing the fuel filter, when i did my old volvo one it took me a week to stop it leaking at the connectors.
cheers

tom

Yup, there are bleed valves. One behind the OS headlamp, one in front of the heater box.

I use a synthetic EP80/90, without problems.

Cheers

Re: gear box oil and more....

Hi, there's no real need to replace the coolant if you've just replaced the thermostat but if it's not been done for some time (2 years or so) or if you dont know the history of the car then it's a job well worth doing.

I did mine this weekend and it didn't take too long to do and i'm now a lot happier in the knowledge that its done and wont need doing for another 5 years. It also made a HUGE difference to the cooling in that before i did the change, the engine would get hot (fan cutting in) quite quickly. With the new coolant, it took a good 20 mins or so to get the fan to kick in.

Regarding the bleed points, there are usually 2, as rallycinq says, 1 by offside headlamp and one by the heater pipe next to the battery tray. However, some cars, mine included, dont have the bleed point in the heater pipe. That said, i never had any probs with mine as a result but you can disconnect the pipe and bleed it if necessary.

Hope this helps.
