Hi All
I have just bought my self a 1997 Cinquecento sx 899cc but the Battery light is on constant But when tested it is telling me it is still charging ok.
The belt is tight not making any sounds.Could it still be a duff alternator not sending the correct signal???
Any help much appreciated.

defo your alternator it might of only gone, but now there is nothing charging your battery so when you indicate or brake etc your using more power. only about £20 from brakers easy to fit 3 bolts and wires sould take you about an hour or two to take yours off and get it on

Yeah my fault slight miss understanding The battery is charging fine i have no problems at all,just that the light is on constant,But i have just had another look and if i was to rev the engine fairly high the light goes very dim to nearly out.
Think i might change the alternator for the sake of £20.
What u think.

How do you know its charging? Is it giving 13.8V or there abouts?

It might be fine at idle, but these can wear out their brushes, or chew the bearings.

im having the same problem on my cinq sporting but have not yet been able to check what is causing it.

Yep it's pushing out 14.55v I phoned an auto electrician today and he said disconnect the wire on the alternator (the one the controls the warning light) an if it goes out then its a fault with the alternator if it stays on then it's a wiring problem well I tried this and it went out so until it stops charging it's staying off.:devil: lol
